My brothers computer is a windows 2000. I have a hp XP. He no longer has his restore disk and is having problems with his computer. Will my restore disk for my hp XP work on his windows 2000 computer?

hi, from my knowledge even if its win2k, as long as the recovery disc is given by the supplier, its usable throughout all the same model. unless you are stating that the rescue disc is self created then its impossible to use it for another system of the same model. however, in your case, i should assume that your computer and your brother's computer isn't of the same model since the OS is different. hp uses the same OS for the same model of workstations. but if you want to repair using a win2k OS disc i would recommend that you search for the drivers for your brother's computer first as in some cases, when win2k is doing repairing, some drivers will be replaced by the default driver in win2k.

I believe you cannot use an XP rescue disk for a Win2000 system, in fact you cannot even use one from another Win2000 system even if they have the same brand and specks. Rescue disk contain the disk configuration, location of system files and addresses of programs installed in ones computer. It would be better to use win2000 setup disc and do the repair from there.
