Who are the Heroes?

United States

I would like to talk about Heroes today. They come in so many different shapes and sizes, and they occupy positions in almost every profession in life. There doesn't seem to be a long list of fundemental skills required for the job, but one vital character trait that is mandatory to fit the bill; a big compassionate selfless heart ready to act with just the slightest provokation. You hear individuals say that they WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD and THEY WANT TO HELP PEOPLE who can't help themselves. Very often it has been pointed out that our law enforcement officers and firemen perform heroically every time they go on shift, not knowing if that day they may have to pay the ultimate sacrifice of dying in the process of their duties. Yes, these are heroes no doubt, but as they are on the front lines of homefront battle fields I rather liken them to WARRIORS out on the tip of the spear. They do not win the fight against evil and wrong doers all by themselves. I believe some Americans have it in there heads that they are suppose to handle it all. That is a very shortsighted view. More heroes are needed to back up what they begin on every level of life and it takes personal sacrifice to win this war we wage. I have many heroes. I see the nurses who work double & triple shifts to care for the sick & injured. Pushing their own bodies to the very extreme limits of exhaustion to care for others needs. Doctors, lab techs. in so many areas of health care that I don't even know what the category is called by name, trauma teams saving lives of car accident victims, gunshot patients, stroke & heart patients. I think about all of those working in nursing homes caring for the elderly patients, the morbidly obese and the mentally challenged who would be on our streets if they did not have these places and the people to care for them. These trained individuals and organizations are heroes to every patient that needs them. Then I think about soup kitchens for the homeless and food pantries for those who are working hard but still don't have enough. The people that work in those kitchen and food pantries are heroes to those that have that need. Right now our military forces are fighting on other shores in the name of our nation and we proudly call them our heroes, and they are! Their families are suffering in ways that many of us can see clearly is an injustice to the spouses & children left at home, yet there are heroes coming to their rescue in the form of their neighbors and communities to supply them with what they have need of while their heroes OUR HEROES are fighting on foreign shores for us all. There are many of you reading this article now who in the past have shared your cupboards and freezers of food with someone in need, or opened your closets and drawers to share your clothing with others perhaps thru your church or the salvation army or similar group. Maybe you didn't feel like one or nobody called you one, but you my friend are my HERO! And you are God's hero too! Would you share with me and other readers here on mylot things that you have done, or that some one has done for you that you would call an act of heroism? You see, so often we loudly acclaim the BIG events as acts of heroism, and the small acts are never mentioned , accredited, validated or praised. I believe that the Lord Jesus who is my Savior has quickened it to my heart to give to each of you an opportunity to lift up someone that was sent your way at a time you were in need that put that person in the position to became your HERO. Would you tell us your story?

I do believe also that God sends someone in our time of need or impliments us to be that person for someone else. When I was housed after having lived in rented accomodation for a few years I had no cooker as my rented accomodation came with one. It was okay though as I had amicrowave, I had a kettle and I had a small camping stove I could use until I saved up the money for one. I received a knock on the door from someone that lived a few hundred miles away and they said I'm taking you shopping and they told me to choose whichever cooker I wanted from the shop. They would pay. I choose the cheapest and they said no I want you to choose the one you want that is too narrow for the gap in the kitchen anyway. I chose but said that I would pay them back weekly, they insisted no and then said the reason why they were doing this was because many years before they were struggling and they had asked for help from friends and not received anything from people in a good financial position but I myself had sent them a cheque to cover a weeks rent when I was the one that could least afford it. Wow I had fogotten I had even done that as it was so many years ago, but they saif that now they were in a better position it was there turn to help me. People are everywhere doing kind deeds, giving some pennies to a young child in a shop as they didn't quite have enough on them, helping with an elderly persons bags to the bus stop. These people are grateful and the people that give will not be repaid by the person they helped but all actions are overseen by God so will be repaid by him. He sees all. Ellie
