I was befuddled too when I started out. I finally asked somebody who used a lot of those abbreviations in her emails what it mean and why. Little did I know it was used on chats a lot. Here are a few of my favorites though: LMAO = laughing my a.s.s. off KMA - kis my a.s.s. One thing I don't like though is when people use LOL a lot. Some just have to have it somewhere in every sentence they use. Are they really laughing at everything or is it just out of habit? Hmmm... I wonder!

I remember I use to read this "LMAO" before and I really wonder what it means. I was ashamed to ask about its meaning so I just ignore it. But later on I get to understand it along with those other net lingo...

There is so many slang and 'lingo' out there and because English is not my mother tongue I sometimes have a very hard time getting discussions that seem to have been composed on júst abbreviations and nothing else. It can take some time to get through reading them and even if I manage to that doesn't mean I get the clue of the discussion. There are no normal words in there Even though I use abbreviations like LOL, ROTF and OMG I try to minimalize it so that my messages stay clear and have a decent spelling, or at least as good as I'm able to get it.
