Waiting Tables a Good Job for Introverts?

Waiting tables is a job my friends and family assumed I wouldn't want, since I grew up being the kind of girl who reads novels in her room after school--an introvert, not a social butterfly. As an adult, working as a waitress at The American Cafe in Springfield, VA, I met people who, almost exclusively, did not match my personality type--although they were young like me(I was in my early twenties at the time) they were more social than I have ever been. Overall, I would say it was a good experience, if slightly awkward, to work as a waiter--some of that rubbed off on me, and left me a little more confident socially. It's good to stretch boundaries while young, I think--it leaves you with more options when you're older. Are there any other introverted waiters or waitresses out there? Or former waiters or waitresses? If so, what did you think of the experience?

I used to be an introvert and a little stint as a waitress in my youth did help me a bit. But if you want to make good tips you need to be more social with the customers. It's definitely not a good career choice for an introvert IMO.
