Life in city vs small town

I have lived in many different places. Big cities, in the middle of the desert beside the ocean, in the mountains, small towns I now live in a small town where we are much safer then in some places. I love not locking my door at night and being able to walk around outside at midnight without fear... Thoughts? "Groundhog Day is a little different in New York City. Last year he climbed out of the hole and witnessed a homicide." - David Letterman

Too funny I read this post right now. I live now where I grew up- small town and surrounded by nothing but more small towns. I am watching a home show on TV and they are in a city I lived in for three years and MISS!! I actually am holding back tears watching them talk about the suburbs I remember and other area attractions. I used to think the small town was safer...and it used to be any crime was domestic related. The only major crimes committed were by people who had come from out of town...usually the city. But there are more and more crimes here and I think it is going to be unsafe very soon...partly because people think it is still safe. kwim? On the up side, my house is way more gorgeous and upgraded than their house and I paid quite a bit less.

i can completely relate to the small town surrounded by other small towns...and the crime in the small towns are just as bad...and maybe a bit more so in the respect that if the town is so poor , such as mine, and politically tied up - so that no new business is allowed in - and there is absolutely nothing for the kids to do - nothing- they go crazy- and so do the adults even...not to mention the gas prices so now not only can they not go out of town on occasion to let off some steam, they "feel" trapt and will become angry, frustrated and that has to go somewhere eventually, i fear things could go very wrong sooner than later before people wake up to help and reach out in a prevenative manner....

I have only ever really lived in large towns or cities or at least on the outskirts of them so I am not sure which I really prefer Mom! I guess I am happier in our small city as we are so close to the centre of town yet minutes away from the countryside too! xxx

I live in a big city myself, that is all I have ever known and I do not lock my doors at night. It is a very quiet neighbourhood.

i think you right..we must to have both living in city and small town..because we get leisure after hard work in city then go home in small town...

I used to live in a beautiful coutryside, where I may have spent the most happy childhood. The simple life there really made me quite relaxed without any worry. While now when I live in city,I can never experience the quiet and free that used to exist in the countryside.I really miss those days living in a small countryside.

I grew up in city. from my childhood to adolescence and now im a family woman, i am still in the city. I used to remember when my mom brought me in her town. life there differs a lot from city. so i found it boring... so i talked to my mom that i would rather live in a city than to stay here. i can't live here. this is not a place for me... thats what ive told to my mom, so she let me go back in the city... im still visiting that town but until now, i cant live there... i dont know why, its just that i found that town very boring.. no malls, no buildings...

I still like to live in the city and I am living it until now. Everything seems to be much more convenient. And I don't have to spend long time going to work. And the health care and education will be better. To me, I think it will be better to live in the small town when I am retired. I love China

Hi raydene! I am living in a city and sometimes the hustle and bustle of city life gets into me. I have vacationed in a small town near the sea which is very far from my home now. And I have experienced how it is to be living in a very quiet town. I just love it there but my husband's work is in the city but someday, I wish to go back there if I will have the opportunity. Take Care and God Bless!

raydene_ That's a question I ask every day. I live in a medium size city now, and there's enough traffic to make life difficult, but not enough stores to provide variety. I like living somewhere I can have privacy, but I don't like living too far from a large city. What a dream, right?

I love living in a small town. There's just not all that hustle and bustle of a big city.(And being a truck driver i drove in every big city in the USA.) I hate traffic. So if I have to go somewhere at rush hour. I just have to wait about 10 minutes before I leave and rush hour is over. But I do like being close enough to a big city so if I want to do something special I don't have far to drive. So It's kind of the best of both.
