Someone commented on my blog saying "this blog would be more interesting if you posted something that more people could relate to." I know this was so that people would click on his username and go to his site which was a site about lotto numbers. I've also had other people post similar links in my comments. One guy gave me great praise about my blog and when I clicked on his username, I saw that his entire blog was about a certain brand of cigarettes. Luckily, I moderate my blog comments for that exact reason. Have you gotten this on your blogs? Is there a way to block or report people who do that?

I find it humorous that that guy had the nerve to say anything at all about more people to relate to. Don't we blog for personal self centered reasons to begin with? I don't care if anyone can relate to what I write. I write to please my own voice, if someone reads it and likes it so be it. At any rate my blog is so new it is not getting much traffic to begin with, and the only one that has seen it is a few friends.

I actually have two blogs, but I only get these comments on one of them. I actually get quite a few page views on both of them for a blog done by a "nobody", I think. His site, or blog, or whatever, was nothing but lists of the latest lotto numbers.

I've never blogged and have only the foggiest idea what it is. How do you do it, and why? Can you make money doing it?

I don't have a blog, so this has never been an issue for me, but if I had one, and if this were to happen, I would deinitely do as you are doing. It is always a good idea to moderate anything on which others will comment.

I like to keep my blogs "G" rated so that anyone can look at them.

That sort of thing is why I pay a monthly fee for a full-service blog platform instead of going with the freebies. Mine has the capability for blocking individual users while allowing desireable comments and also for preventing trackbacks.

I might get a paid service if I start making more money at it.

I've had a few of those, but the site I have my blog on will block them and send me an email asking me if I want to approve or deny the comment. Sometimes I get comments that make no real sense, and I finally had to write to the math department of some university telling them somebody was using their computers for spam. It finally stopped

I get the e-mails, too, but the message is written in them. I can't trace the comment though, so I can't report anyone.

Hi desertdarlene, this has never happened to me for many reasons. First, I am just a beginner. Second, I am a bit lazy and never update my blog. Third, I have to beg people to put in a comment, which they usually forget to do. I guess this might happen to me when I become a rich and famous blogger (?), so I must thank you for warning me of "what might happen" in advance. Cheers and happy mylotting

BLogger allows you to moderate comments so just approve what you want to. I have not approved comments before since I know they are only there to promote their site - isn't that called link exchange? or something like that. I will look at their site and if it is something I think will add to my blog, I will allow it. But then go to his and ask for a return link. It is all just what you want to do for your blog.

People will do whatever they can do and just hope others will fall for it.

I haven't had issues like that when I get blogs. Most of my blogs I put is on my site called Yuwie. Honestly things like those wouldn't be allowed since most of the users on Yuwie are friendly and do want to read a lot of interesting blogs. I wonder where you're getting this type of problem. Blocking or reporting well it depends on the source if they site allows that you'd have to check that on the FAQ.

I do Yuwie as well, but I am working with Blogger for my main blog as I can't even navigate the Yuwie site as it keeps freezing up on me. This is the first time that I really got someone leaving a nasty comment on my blog, especially one that is not very constructive. I'm not going to change the topic on my blog because some idiot doesn't find it interesting.
