How long before you close discussions

I try to let a few hours go by before I close my discussions with a best response. I do not like to have unresolved discussions. How long do you wait?

I don't think a few hours is really long enough. I wait at least a week or so because you never know when people are going to stop responding and that best response may come in after you have chosen one. I have only been here for a few months and only learned about what unresolved discussions were last night. Many of my discussions were from when I first started. They were not drawing any new responses so I chose best response on those. I also chose a few on some that were a few weeks old. But I definitely want to give everyone time to respond who wants to. A few hours just won't do it because not everyone who comes here is here in those few hours I am.

Personally, I don't believe that a discussion is closed already after you chosen your best response. I still respond to a discussion even it has already a best response as long as I feel that I have something to say that the previous posters did not mention. Back to your question, I gave my best response to the post that has the most relevance to my discussion and if the response has given me the right information I needed.
