When can I read?

One of my favorite activities is reading and I can never find time for it. If I do find time to fit it in, I feel guilty because I'm not spending time with my family. Reading for me and finding time for me makes me a happier person and nicer. So when can I read and not feel guilty about it. Does anyone else have this problem, and what do you do to find time for it?

I don't think reading is something you should be feeling guilty about. Obviously if you have a hard time finding the time to read, you are really busy, and therefore you need some quality 'me' time to relax and recharge your batteries. Can you read in bed at night? Not that you should have to if you don't feel like doing it then. I think your family need to know that you need some time to yourself, which, as you say, makes you a better person!

It does make me a better person because I love it so much and it makes me happy. At times I just need to shut down and immerse myself in a great book. I will find time to do it, cause it helps not only me, but my family. Reading in bed is a no go cause the light bothers my husband. But I can stay in the living room and read and when I'm done, then go to bed. Thanks for your response.

I think reading is one of the best past-times one can have, and nothing should get in the way of that 'me' time. I'm like you in the fact I read in the living room, then go to bed once I've finished, as I worry the light will annoy my wife!

Perhaps you could try taking the bus (or train) to work and reading while riding on it? It might also be possible to read at meals that you don't share with your family (or with your friends, for that matter). Reading right before you go to bed also sounds like a good idea. I also have a hard time finding time to read...but a lot of it is because I rarely have the time between all of the things I'm expected to do for school and for work. If I commuted by public transportation I would try reading during that time.

That's a great idea to read on my way to work. But I only live like 5 minutes from work so that won't happen. The reading right before bed in the living room seems like my best bet. Thank You for that.

I love to read very much but sometime I have not the mood or the time to read, but my love to read is so big that I decided to read minimum half an hour a day.I borrow 2 books from library and I change them every two weeks. So you can see that in that way I read and have a very good time.

Hi and Welcome to MyLot !!! I love to read too, but I don't seem to do it much any more. I do read my assignments for college but that's about it. I used to enjoy reading popular fiction and romance novels. I just don't find the time to do it anymore. The internet and TV have alot to do with it. I use alot of my time online while watching TV. If I were you, I wouldn't feel guilty about it. Someday in the future you may find the time to read. Happy MyLotting, Char

I guess I'll just have to fit in little bits of time to read, and just look forward to all the time I will have later to read once my kids are grown and can do much on their own. What sounds really good, is going out early in the morning while it's still cool outside and read on the porch. My neighbor just started doing that and it sounds sooooooo good.

Have you considered books on tape or cd? If you're pressed for time, maybe you could listen to a book while commuting in your car. It's an option to consider.

yes I have thought about that, and I've done it. I like to read a book more though. But I guess it's better than nothing at all. Thanks for your response.
