Well for the past two days now I have not done my usual amount of bike riding. I rode 20 minutes yesterday and only 10 today. It has been way too hot and humid for me with my bronchial asthma. I awoke to hot and humid air early this morning. Here in Minnesota the air is so thick etc the EPA has issued a pollution alert/warning. It means that the elderly, very young, people with respiratory problems etc are at risk in this air for too long a period of time. Have you ever been in an area where they issue the pollution alerts? Do you have any type of respiratory problem such as asthma etc? Can you still exercise outdoors in the high temps and high humidity levels? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Couldbe why. But this alert is due to the amount of exhaust and factory fumes etc that will just hang in the thick humid air. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We have had several very humid days this Summer! To the point that the Air feels so think and it makes breathing harder to do. I can not even think about riding a bike ouside in theis weather. I have never been told that I have any breathing problems, but I am a former Smoker. So I imagine that I have damaged my lungs quite a bit! Glad to hear that you enjoy bike riding!

Hi Grandpa, In my country especially in the city, we have this problem...Pollution that is why I am glad that my parents house was in a province and free from any harm pollution so oftentimes before every weekend, we will visit there to be with them as well as breath the fresh air from the ocean and trees! LOL! Here in our place with my husband, we are also lucky to be free from any of that thick air and pollution..maybe it is nice to just stay in your garden and breath the fresh air while you still have that problem!

Where I live we almost always have high humidity. The air has been really thick feeling here ever since the nice cooler weather with the rain and winds that hurricane Dolly brought us. It is harder for me to do things in the heat and humidity like that. We at times have ozone action days here also.

We have rainstorms and it does nothing most times for the humidity. The heat recedes but it is still sticky after a storm. The storms we are getting way up North are the remnants of Dolly actually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

My son who is 6 was told that he has bronchial asthma, he suffers about 2 - 3 times a year with it and has to have an inhaler. I have never heard of a pollution alert before and I have never had it around here where I live.

I use 2 inhalers. One is a quick relief for when I have an astham attack. The other is a preventive inhaler taken twice each day. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well its been really hot here too, and I don't think anybody should be out in it for very long, if you can help it. Here we have what they call ozone alert days, yesterday was one and I think today probably will be too. On those days they would like more people to carpool to work, or if you have to do yardwork, to do it in the evening when its a little cooler, try not to have to run anything with a motor on it for very long, to save the ozone I guess. We have alot of humidity here also, so its sticky hot and it would be hard to breathe if you have respiratory problems. I don't have any of those problems but I can't stand the heat for very long, if I get too hot I get nosebleeds, and some of the medicine I'm on, warns me to stay out of the sun as much as I can, so I try to stay inside where its cool most of the day. So I don't exercise outdoors too much in the summer, I do aerobic walking in the house everyday, it helps when I can't get outside.

This is basically what they say here with the pollution alerts too. My asthma is not fun. Going from warmth to cold causes an attack most times for me. But I manage this time of year as I sit indoors with the A/C on. Thanks. I do go outside with this weather for some gardening work. But I stay out till I feel the least bit uncomfortable. But today i won't be out there. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I walked outside and was sorry I had to go out. It's 90% humidity according to the news. I can be somewhat OK in the 100 degree weather here. But not even a lot of water helps me deal with the humidity. I can forget about exercising outside. Even inside I better have that air cranked up if I want to do any exercising.

What a terrible thing to be living in a place where they have to issue pollution warnings. Does no one care about doing something more than just issue warnings? This is truly pathetic and I don't think we would survive at all on this planet if this is how it is going to be for our children. Terrible!!

Hey Grandpa Bob! Whew! Do I know the feeling! It gets really hot here in Georgia. And, they do give us warnings like they gave you about how dangerous it is to be outside for any extended period of time. I was out of town a little over a week ago and found out that it was in the 100's when I was gone so, I missed that! Thank God. But, a couple of days ago, I found it almost too hot to walk from the car in the parking lot to the grocery store and all the other places that the hubby and I were running around to. I think it was in the upper 90's and it was horribly humid which makes it even worse. So, I can relate. I get heat exhaustion pretty easily so I have to be careful about the time I spend outside when it is too hot. I am one of those people who needs to listen to the warnings when they give them, and heed them. Stay cool and hydrated!

Good morning! Im BILL,from Connecticut,im over 400lbs and trying to lose weight,BUT,it s difficult! I dont know if theres a bike, that can hold my weight, right now,i couldnt afford one. Scientists have said humidity doesnt affect your breathing,BUT,i used to work as a messenger,in NEW YORK CITY,in the late 60s-early 70s.BELIEVE me,it DOES affect your breathing. Its the air pressure,PLUS,the moisture in the air .As far as poloution is concerned, here in CT,we get poloution from NEW YORK and NEW JERSEY,not to mention our own highways.TODAY,the OZONE is very high, the air is totally un healthy.Anyone who ventures outdoors,is at risk.Im disabled,an suffered 2 strokes in 20 years, luckily,im not parylized,BUT,because of my weight,i have mobility issues.Im 52 years old,and starting to feel it!!!!!

Hi, my grandpa has asthma. The worse thing is he is also a smoker. When it is hot and humid in summer and cold in the winter, he has some difficulties in breathing. But he does not quit. Smoking makes it worse.

I was asthmatic when I just a child Grandpa Bob but I somehow got over it. I remember growing up being carted by either my parents or grandmother to our local healer for some asthma cure. I am lucky though that we never had such pollution in our city. Fifteen minutes from where I live, one could get very fresh mountain or sea air. Just love it. Though a lot of us keeps on despairing about poverty and lack of progress here, but we do have something that is good and that is air that is still fresh. So a lot of us do love to spend our time outdoors exercising or just walking.

Hello, Webeishere! Well, it just sucks when you can't exercise because of the sun, isn't it? I have staid home because of the sun, but it was a while ago. I can't remember it very well, but there are days so hot that you don't go outside, because inside is colder. I really am sorry for the conditions of the air in your city. Here, things are not really great. I mean, the air is not the cleanest, but there are places where you can just breath a pure air. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

Bob here in NC we stay in the Red zone most of the summer, this summer has really not been too bad thus far, knock on wood, but last year we were in a bad drought situation, and the temps were in the 100's for weeks at a time, add to that the humidity, and some smog, and it was unbearable. Hope it cools down for ya soon. Blessings Marilyn

When I lived in Phoenix, there were many days that we were on alert for air pollution, particularly in the "winter". We've had a few here in my part of Ohio but not nearly as many as out west. I'm sorry it's so hot and humid there! It's been pretty pleasant here, 80-85 and not too awfully humid. We had a couple days of 90 but for the most part it's pretty great weather. I don't know what August will be like, though, it's notoriously hot and muggy! I guess you'll have to turn the a/c on and run in place or something. Asthma is really tough to deal with and better safe than sorry!! I used to have it but haven't been bothered with it since I had my first child--go figure...God works in mysterious ways! But I remember it being horrible and so scary when everything closed up and I could barely breathe.

My sons both have asthma the humidity doesn't seem to bother my oldest, my youngest on the other hand, any change in weather, elevated allergens and almost anything else can set his off so he has to be watched carefully.
