What do you think of indie bands that have gone mainstream?

I personally prefer that indie bands stay as indie because whenever an indie band goes mainstream, they sort of lose the cool indie factor. They become celebrities and there's so much hype about them, it makes me lose interest in them. Sometimes, their music changes and becomes pop-ish, it's sad. I don't think indie bands need to go mainstream to achieve success. What's your say on this?

Most bands that promote themselves at all have the eventual goal to go "mainstream". Very few bands out there do it just for the gig. They're trying to make a name for themselves and they're are trying to achieve fame and fortune. Indie is such a broad term, independent music can span over several genres they're indie because they're not signed on to a label. So yes, of course they will sound "pop-ish" because they have become popular in their genre and they play what most people want to hear and what the feel good about it. So if a band wants to go mainstream more power to them. If their music changes and you don't like it, then it's alright to stop liking that band, but to stop liking them because they've gone mainstream is such a cliche! I'm pretty sure that's not what you wanted to hear but that's my opinion.

:) No worries about giving me what I want to hear. I don't stop liking any band just because they've gone mainstream, but some bands do change their genre to suit the music market. Like you've said, it is up to us to like or dislike them. Thanks for your response.
