Okey, we just replaced our old sofa set in the living room a couple of months ago. Reason is that, it's almost dead. Our cats loved to scratch on almost every minute. It was terrible so, we decided to get a new set of sofa. Just a few months old, it already has so many scratches all over. My cats just won't stop until they're satisfied. They already have their scratch pads. We even bought a big play pen for cats where they can sleep, play and scratch their claws onto. But they just won't leave our sofa alone. Do you have any ideas on how to stop their bad habits? I really need some help here.

My cat did the same to my brand new sofas and wrecked them. I tried everything, but nothing stopped her. They just think everything you buy is especially for them. I even bought a throw rug to try and cover the couch, but she got in underneath it. In the end I clipped the tips of her claws. Good luck, and sorry about your sofa.

true! sometimes i think that it's a worth of money to buy a new sofa. so, my boyfriend and i are thinking of getting a second hand one in good condition next time if ever the time comes that we need to have it changed.

My sofa has now gone through the added stress of my husband's feet and various methods of artwork by my daughter. I am not getting a new one for a long time - it would be wrecked again within days ... lol! Have a great weekend :)

There is a spray that you can spray on it and it will make them stay away from it. Or you can get a empty spray bottle and every time you see them scratching spray them with it and after awhile they will or might get the message.

I can sympathsize with your dilemma as I just got a new bed that I assembled and am wondering if my one cat in particular, Pyewacket is going to "initiate" it by scratching his claws on the end of it like he did with the old one...I'll just have to watch I guess. As someone else here said, try to cut the tips of their front claws,..that might help...worse comes to worse, they do sell these things called Soft Paws nail tips that you cap over your cats claws...a much better alternative to declawing which is very inhumane..here's the website about them http://www.softpaws.com/faqs.html

i don't have that problem with my cats. whenever i am eating, they do keep their distance. the only problem i have is the way they treat our sofa. our new sofa will surely die in a matter of months because of this.

We have a cat tower, the cardboard scratch pads and we trim the cats nails, and all they every do is when the nails get a bit long they will scratch the carpet.

We found a tape called Sticky Paws. You can order it online. It is a double faced tape that adheres to the furniture and when the cats put their paws on it, they don't claw it. It broke my cats in a hurry. I tried everything before I bought this. Spraying with a spray bottle, shaking a can of marbles at them. Nothing worked but the Sticky Paws.
