Good day... That's really a stupid or I'll say a scheme to rip off the consumers. I mean can we predict the exact amount of electricity we use? and does the prepaid had an expiry date just like our cellphones cards? I mean why pay in advance in something we already have in our front door and haven't still use? Paying in advance before the service is rendered is always anti-consumer and I mean always. As with other prepaid services, we can expect issues that can arise from this and when that issue isn't settled as fast as we expect it to be like we have in this government, our money are already in their greedy pockets and we will be in the dark.

That sounds weird..I don't know if I necesarily like it.lol What if you suddenly run out of electricty credits in the middle of the night and wake up with no electricity in the morning. And how much would you buy?But it could work for some people.

That is a weird innovation... but i don't think i would ever convert to a prepaid electricity... i am afraid i might run out fo electricity load in the middle of the night or while i am watching my favorite show... or while i am taking a bath... that might drive me crazy... i prefer how i do it right now... safer and more reliable...

hi aseretdd... yes its weird innovation...hmmm oops i cannot say it as an innovation because it doesn't make life easier for us consumers...the old system is still the best... "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" SMILE ALWAYS...^_^

That idea here in our country is new for sure but in other country i think its not new jus because of they have a good technologies there that can manipulate things unlike here in our country we don't have such things like that or some machines that can create inventions.I think it has a disadvantage too like in the cellphone if you don't have load you can't send text messages,in that case if you don't have load you don't have electricity, and come to think of this, what if their system goes down what will they do?its hard to make a system that can manipulate electricity using prepaid.

Hi metal! Ive actually heard of this proposition before but I think that its still under observation or under more research. I dont think they have passed this on yet. Hmm, if they do put this through I think that there might be accidents. I mean with cellphone load, if you mistype a number you get it sent to the wrong person, but you still have to pay for it. That might happen with prepaid electricity as well. As for prepaid electricity being available in other countries, sorry, no idea.LOL Im sure someone out there in myLot land can be more useful than me. Goodluck!

hi jinxky... yes its new!!! just imagine using a cellphone that we must load regularly... you can buy prepaid load of electricity, or transfer electricity to other household just like any regular load...hmmm but i am doubtful about it because they didn't mention from what country they adopted this...so surely there will be many loop holes and bugs in this proposed prepaid electricity scheme...and we the poor consumer will be the ones to suffer SMILE ALWAYS...^_^

My friend is from England and he told me that there is another kind of pre-paid electricity there. No bills come to you besides you have to insert coins in your electricity meter outside or inside your home. You must be thankful to God that you have electricity in your country. In Pakistan, there is severe electricity shortage but its the new technology if you are going to have pre-paid electricity there. You won't have to wait for the bills in odd days of your month when you didn't receive your salary yet and don't have to stand in queues outside the bank to submit your bill.

Hi metal_monkee! When I lived in London a few years back, I was staying with my aunt's best friend and she has this prepaid card for electricity. She will always have it loaded for 20 British pounds and we usually consume that for two-three weeks. There is this small gadget that is attached in a meter like the one you have for swiping credit cards and she will swipe the loaded card there and it will be read by the gadget and then the meter is loaded. That is how I remember her doing it. Take care always..God Bless!

hello metal_monkee, great to see a post of yours again. anyway, regarding your topic i believe that it would be best to have such process when it comes to electrical payments. i said this because when we live in beijing, china. our way to buy electricity is to go to bank and top up our prepaid card with how much money we want it to be. the pros of that is you can easily know how much you are spending and you can manage your electrical bill and usage properly. i said this coz i often check our meter and it shows how much money left is out there, if its less then i know i need to buy more and it also gives me a great idea how good or bad we are using our electricity. i also believe that having it prepaid helps the people be more responsible and avoid the cheating/tapping part from the users end. the only bad thing about this is, you should always have your card loaded with money coz once the money turn zero on the meter you wont be able to have electricity at home. also if you are a busy person and forgetful or lazy when it comes to paying your card you will end up having problems then. they also have the same process in water, i like it but the only con is if your card is out you will end up having soap for awhile while having your shower LOL it happens to us a few times but luckily i am always prepared haha. takecare

hi chechuva... same here i am stunned and laughed when i heard of it last night...i haven't heard of it and i actually thought it must come from a scifi movie...electricity being bought and sold via prepaid method must come from a creative mind...^_^ anyways i dont agree of it being more affordable...since its new systems many bugs and problems will arise at first it appears to be but if problems started to come then it will be costly to us poor consumers... just think of the normal prepaid cellphone problems: 1)do you encounter problems like no signal? (what if no signal no = electricity) haha 2) do you encounter delay messages? (what happen if delayed electricity? i switch on the tv 3hour ago now iam sleeping it switch on haha ) 3) do you encounter being charge 2 times for 1 txt msg? (will you agree to be electrify 2 times) ^_^ hehe 4) do you encounter msgs sending failed becoz you dont have any loads ( waah no loads no electricity) :( 5) do you encounter complaining to the csr and they will tell you to monitor within 24hrs? yet after 24hrs nothing happens? SMILE ALWAYS...^_^

Yeah, I hear about it and I am not happy with it and think as well, that it was impossible for people to like their idea. I mean, limited electricity, what if you're doing important works in the computer and your electricity was cut off or your bathing or cooking and at night, what we will do if the electricity was cut off at night, then it will be dark and hot. For me, it was not the right solution if they wanted to solve the high price of electricity. And if it will be permitted, it was a big problem for me, I suppose. I don't know how I'll get by with prepaid electricity.

No, here in America, if you own your own home or you live in you own place, then you have to pay the bill. My family has to pay our own electric bill.

this is kinda odd but i guess the power company needs to solve those delinquent accounts and power thieves. But my concern on this is the tools or things they would need to start this up...they will probably need to raise up the power bills to achieve their prepaid project., which would make the people more delinquent and behind on thier bills.

This is something new for us, i think..But also, i dont think that this will materialize or it will take a decade to be approved.. What the heck is this now? Instead of just looking into how they can lower down the electricity rates and other important and urgent matters with regards to system loss etc, they are coming up with this nonsense!? Oh, sorry, you said smile always and here i am getting ready to make a rant.. I suggest that they fix the old and recent problems first before coming up with new ideas that would surely make us, suffer eventually..

I don't think that would be a good idea. Electric companies here in the Philippines tend to raise prices of electricity whenever they want to. Having it prepaid could get things worst because you'll never know if what you have bought for the month is enough. What if all of a sudden the prices come up again without notice then your electricity will be just cut off. it is not good right?

I guess it's a good news for most people who are particular with their electrical consumptions. But for some who usually can't pay the electricity bills on time, it is surely a bad news. On my part, i would like to make it happen, at least you can monitor and lessen consumption if you are aware of the load available. lol! funny but true. Just like a prepaid cellphone, you tend to use it more when you have more loads, but when you are almost reaching the zero balance, you tend to control yourself. Go for PREPAID Electricity!

I live in the UK and you have the choice if you want to go on a prepayment meter. As for myself I can honestly say that I would not have it any other way! This is a good way I think to budget for your electricity, ok the prices are going up all the time, but you can still keep tabs on what you spend on your electricity. I used to pay monthly for my electricity via direct debit, but then I got into debt with the company in question as I was just using too much and not realising it. This whole prepayment thing has been around for quite a while now. I wish you the best of luck. Andrew
