Okay, I'm down in LA visiting with family over labor day weekend. And the other night we were coming back to our hotel. At one street the traffic started to bottle-neck. So as we creeped forward we saw just temporary street sign that said, "Check point ahead". Then I noticed to motorcycle cops right next to us. So I though oooooh.... it's like in the movies they're checking for a fugitive or something!!! It was pretty exciting. So as we continued forward another sign came into view and it was an electronic sign that would flash, "DUI", "Save time have license ready", "check point ahead". So then I started thinking.... okay, labor day weekend, drunk drviers... got it. Makes sense... then I thought... how would they determine some one was drunk just by looking at their ID? It seemed pretty stupid but anyway I got my license out so did my wife just in case they wanted the passengers too. So as we're coming forward about 30 police officers (i'm not joking 30 at least) on either side of the road standing in a line with about 15 or more different types of police vehicles parked on the side. Mind you they shut down two lanes for this. There were about 3 of the cops waving traffic through with their flashlights. At the end of it, not a single one wanted to see my license instead there was a big glass case with a police car in it smashed in at the front on display. Now I assume this was to show what drunk drivers do to police cars? Apparently none of this happens to civilians? Is it just me or did this seem like a complete waste of time and money for both the Tax payers and the officers. When those officers could have been out protecting and serving the people instead of this crap? I was pretty peeved at the whole thing. But I don't see the point to it that's why I'm posting this I'm hoping someone out there could shed some light on the whole purpose of it. Thanks

I just want to say WELCOME TO L.A. where we have police activity that makes no sense to local natives like myself. I don't understand why they had to shut down two lanes. All they had to do was form a lane and flash the light in peoples' faces see if anyone is wasted. Trust me, I get peeved. Thanks to our governor you had to witness that. Im all for stopping drunk drivers in their path before they hurt themselves or anyone else but when the city uses the police for check points and they are not doing what they are supposed to be doing, its just a waste of taxpayers money.
