What is the stinkiest smell you've ever experienced?

I went over to the Norman dog pound one day and a very foul smell was presented to me in quite a wave of odor. Apparently it was where all the composting was done. I am pretty sure, no, I'm positive I've smelled worse, but that is the last really nasty thing I have breathed in. So what would be the worst thing you have ever smelled?

A skunk! There are tons of them this time of year smashed on the roads and whoa! Do they stink! When I was up north their was one just about everyday close to the cabin...and it takes a while for that odor to disperse!

A smell that has remained in memory for years was one that I smelled when I was just a kid. We lived in a big farm house, surrounded by all kinds of farms. There were horse, cattle, goat and chicken farms. Across the street from our house was a farm where the crops were rotated. We never knew what kind of crop would be grown the next season. (Smart farming...unlike today.) The year that the farmer planted cabbage is the year I remember best. After the crop had matured, he cut a deal for all of his land and sold it to a developer to build a bunch of houses. He must have gotten an excellent price, and soon he was off to parts unknown...leaving the cabbage to rot. You cannot imagine how horrible an entire field of rotten cabbage smells! But I remember...even today...about 45 years later.

I know how bad cooking cabbage smells, so I'm guessing rotting cabbage is a million times worse!

Definitely! Then when you think of rotting cabbage mixed with the other farm smells - chickens, goats, cows. Ewwww.

Besides a skunk? Well,I found something that smelled worse. Rotting chicken livers Yuck. My brother in law went fishing and left his chicken livers in the back of his truck for a few days and he threw the bag out told my nephew to toss it in the trash and the chicken livers container busted open and oh my it smelled so bad I about chucked up... or could be a potato that rotted in the bag.

I live in the city so we don't get a lot of wild animals in my neighborhood. But a few years ago a skunk dug a hole on the side of my garage and had babies in there. Unfortunatley we also had a dog next door who didn't know what a skunk was. Mama skunk came out one night while the dog was out and well... This all taking place about 10 ft from my kitchen window. Over the next two weeks it also happened two more times, what an incredibly stupid dog! It was just horrible and very hard to live with for that long. Since the smell lingered in the yard for a while I actually got used to it somewhat but that's a smell that when fresh will make your eyes water and makes it very difficult to eat. I actually did lose a few pounds during this time!

I don't know if this is the stinkiest smell I've ever smelled, but it was pretty terrible. It was a few months ago and a virus was going around the preschool I work at. Several of the kids in my class all started throwing up at the same time and it smelled horrible! All At The Same Time. Nasty. And I'm by myself in the class. I can't stand the smell of vomit anyway, so I was gagging the whole time I was cleaning.

OOOh that would be awful. I can't stand to see someone throw up because I will end up right beside them, throwing up too.

My father is a supervisor in one of the largest fish processing plants in the US. He has spent years driving his car back and forth from the plant. Mix south Florida heat and fish trapped in a car, you get the picture. I of course do NOT ride in his car ever. And cannot even stomach the thought of fish to eat.

A wet tiger lying in it's own urine and feces. This was what I found once when the circus I worked for had me go pick up this cat which was an unwanted pet. The foulest, rudest, and nastiest odor ever. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

Other than the smell of vomit whenever someone gets sick, the worse smell I can think of was when my dalmatain ran after a skunk, that was one bad smell..

Umm I guess each person finds a different smell appealing or disgusting, but when my roomate made kimchi... Oh My Gosh...It just about killed every American in the building. Everyone hated our apartment, especially those of us who had to live in it!
