Are you one of those people that will use your mobile phone in the toilet??

I have done it myself before, yes. But it IS kind of embarassing because your voice echoes in the bathroom and surely the person on the other end can tell where you are! (I know I have called people before that sounded like they were in a bathroom even though they said they weren't!) lol. What about a public toilet? Will you take a phone call while using a public restroom?

I think I would if and when it's urgent. Like I remember, once I went for a movie and my mom called. I knew it was urgent for she doesn't usually call just like that. I went to the restroom and answered the call. Luckily no one was inside, that made it easier to talk on top of my voice. No points for guessing that I had got a blast from her for some really good reason. Now don't ask me about that!

Better to talk on your phone in the restroom rather than in the movie. I can't STAND it when people take phone calls during a movie..... At least you were alone this time around so far less embarassing! Thanks for responding and OK, I won't ask!

Guess what! I hate it as well! There are these annoyingly boring people who would manage their office and home while in a movie! It feels awful!

You should see how it is here in Egypt on this front! It drives me insane. NOBODY seems to turn of their mobiles and some will even let those long music tones ring several times before answering and then sit there for minutes at a time chatting away!

I have a cordless phone that comes with 2 cordless phones and 2 charging bases. One is the main base but the other one I can put anywhere in the house without having to have a phone line there I guess it is a chip or something that connects them. But my second cordless phone is in the bathroom because it never fails that whenever we are using the bathroom the phone rings so this way we won't miss a call. I don't tell others where I am unless they ask me if I am in the bathroom because that is a bit private matter. My sister in law calls me while she is in the bathroom and often times will go to the bathroom while on the phone.

My bathroom is right next to my bedroom so that the phone is also about 6 feet away from my bed so that if someone calls we can also get the phone. It is just more convenient to have the phone in the rest room. Never fails when I am about to take a shower the phone rings..I know I have a answering machine but rarely ever use it, besides my husband always turns it off he hates the answering machine..lol So it works for me and if others do have a problem with it I would think they would call back at a later time. A lot of rich people have phones in their bathroom I have figured that people will take their cordless with the also to the bathroom so they won't miss a call. Heck some probably text message while using the bathroom. I don't. I don't call anyone from my bathroom but if someone calls I answer if no one is home but me.

Taking a call in the shower is not so bad! We can quite comfortable state we are there and there is no embarrassment associated with someone hearing the water either. But toilet noises or a flush sound can definitely be embarrassing!

No, not me. I wouldn't use my mobile phone in the toilet. But I have a friend who does. She makes a call to me and her mother when she is in the toilet. She says that's the only time she gets free for herself. Well, she's quite open about it and tells me right in the beginning of the conversations where she is at!

lol..she's been very careful about the background sound effects (so far) but I think that is one of the reasons that she warns me in advance when she calls!

No definitely not. When I use a public restroom it means that I am in dire need to relieve myself. So I won't bother to look at my mobile. Usually men's restrooms really stink, so I wonder how many are able to use their mobile in such conditions.

Haha what a funny but good question. I don't usually take my phone in the bathroom with me, but when I do I put the phone on mute, my friends don't usually notice, esspecially the ones that do most of the talking hehe. But my girlfriend does that. I swear I've seen her take her whole computer in there before. Lol I thought people only brought newspapers and such in the bathroom, but she will sit there typing away to her friends, it's kinda weird, but funny too. She also never shuts the door, while I ALWAYS shut the door, usually locking it, I really don't like someone opening the door on me even if it is an accident... Thanx for asking this, I totally have like 5 new discussions I could start now!

Thanks! You are the second person that has put forward the mute option. It sounds a safe plan to me! lol. But a whole computer??? What's up with THAT?? I am a toilet reader, sure..... But a computer? You have taken this to a whole new level I think! Thanks for responding and I hope that you do go off now and start those 5 discussions then!

Haha, YES to the laptop, Im just as suprised as you are. The only time i would ever bring a laptop in the bathroom is to play music while I shower or do my hair... never while im on the toilet. I did start one topic after this, about leaving the door open while you use the bathroom, and a lot of people do it apparently...

Hi James, surely I will take my cellphone into the public toilet as it’s my best companion that always helps me to keep contact with others. My cellphone is always in my jeans pocket or handbag if I’m away from home. I think it’s not wise to leave my cellphone elsewhere in the public when I go into the toilet or bathroom, for I don’t want to lose it, unless our loved ones or friends keep it for me. posting and take care

I have a cell phone and I would never ever ever use it in a public washroom or the toilet at home or any place on this planet or the whole universe. There are places where you can get privacy. I do not believe a public toilet is a place where anyone would use one. I would suggest in order to avoid embarrassment and for me to think you are lacking in good judgment and that you are a mor*n that you use it someplace else. Surely your call is not that important that it cannot wait until you are in the other room or in the hallway.

I agree 100% that we should avoid this at all costs suspenseful but sometime it just happens! Especially if the phone rings and it is someone we are close to then we usually have no issues answering! I will not take calls in public stalls but have at home onece oin a while. SuckerUpper's comments are valid too. In noisy places like Clubs and Bars sometimes the toilet is the only place that's quiet enought to hear! Thanks for responding to the discussion.

The bathroom is actually the best place to use a cellphone if you are at the bar or concert for example, because you can't hear anyone anywhere else unless you go outside, and there are some bars and such that don't let you back in for free once you leave.

I will definitely not use my phone while using the public toilet because everyone in the toilet would be able to hear what I say. You would be suprised at how well the toilets can reflect sound. You can almost hear one wisper. Besides that, many public toilet are not that clean, I sure don't want to be in there long. Other than that, there is the chance of the phone droping into you know where, and I don't want to risk it. It is also very embarassing if you answer a call in the public toilet because you won't know when another person would flush or may be make strange noises when they do their business. These can reveal that you are in the toilet. From another prespective, it is not very polite to talk to another person when they are doing their business. And some people find it disturbing which makes matters worse. I would normally end any incoming call when I am using the washroom.

There is definitely no privacy. You can tell if someone is in a bathroom when you call them for sure because it echoes like crazy! Thankfully I have never dropped my phone into the toilet either. Hearing toilet noises would definitely be pretty disgusting too. lol. I tend to end incoming calls myself when this happens but sometimes I stupidly answer as well! Thanks for responding Jerrymouse.

I must admit I've done this before on more than one occasion. Usually I'll put the phone on must while I'm "going" and then ask them to hold on while I wash my hands. Hey, sometimes my conversation is too good to stop talking and when nature calls I answer.

I do that all the time. I don't want to miss any text messages or calls and i don't want to keep my contacts from waiting for my reply so i bring along my phone in the toilet at least to make sure that i get the messages right away and be able to reply back without making them wait. It's just not me who let people wait in any situation. I'm just worried though that my mobile phone will fall off my hand whil urinating because i'm still holding it and it may fall down the drain.

I've done this a lot of times. Specially when in a hurry and need to answer a very important call. Even if your voice echoes you can still say that your just checking your self in the mirror, or just have done the thing. Nothing bad to it, atleast your being honest! right?
