Here's the quote from Fox news concerning the auto makers "crying for money" that I think says SOMEONE IS USING COMMON SENSE FINALLY!!! "Companies fail everyday and others take their place. I think this is a road we should not go down," said Shelby, the senior Republican on the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. "They're not building the right products," he said. "They've got good workers but I don't believe they've got good management. They don't innovate. They're a dinosaur in a sense." Added Kyl, the Senate's second-ranking Republican: "Just giving them $25 billion doesn't change anything. It just puts off for six months or so the day of reckoning." My husband and I are specialty contractors... I'm sure you all know and feel the stagnation of the new home/construction markets so I won't cry to you. This type of thinking as stated above is right on time. I am so sick of people and businesses screwing up and then crying to the government for money. No bank or government agency EVER helped us out when we were in trouble. Not even when we had an excellent opportunity for expansion, no real troubles except for operating capitol. The SBA(a government organized agency) said we couldn't "jump through enough hoops" to qualify. I'll tell you we did it anyway, and they were crazy not to help us! After that fiasco, we always went to private individuals for help, got it, and paid them back with interest. That's why I say they are crazy SO, now we are almost dead in the water while the government hands out billions to the giants! And those billions they are handing out will be paid for by the Americans who pay taxes. What kind of crap is that?? Isn't the government supposed to GOVERN? I didn't know they were "the experts" in running businesses and I sure didn't vote for a company when I went to the poles in November! I'm sick of them spending money at our expense and I believe they should simply "let the chips fall where they may"!!! I have the feeling that these bailouts aren't going to stop anytime soon and won't include small time, mom and pop businesses like ours. Thanks for reading my rant, feel free to add your own.

We already bailed out Chrysler once and here we are again, how long must this go on. I know how painful it is to loose your job, but do all of us have to feel the pain? i know that's hard, but it's time to bite the bullet and just say no.

When I look back, did we bail out Chrysler or the Union. I remember many executives took big pay cuts and had to take stock instead of money. Lee Iococa took a salary of $1.00 per year plus stock to turn the company around. He did it with the mini van and once they got back on their feet it was business as usual. Let the Auto companies turn to innovation instead of directing all their resources towards developing ridiculous government standards.

I do agree with you. I think that the government should not support dinosaurs who are destined for failure. In my country our the government was financing the dry drydocks but was not allowed since we joined the European Union. HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. © ronaldinu 2008

I so agree with the statements "They've got good workers but I don't believe they've got good management. " That is so funny to see this statement coming from a man who started companies. I wonder if anyone would take his statements seriously and do something about it. It would be good if more attention and rewards goes to the hardworking lower rungs of the company that do so much to hold the company together as much as the people who manages them! Most of the time, only the top rungs get rewarded even though the ones doing the dirty work to see the deals through are the ones in the lower rungs. It is about time they see the value of the hands and feet of the company rather than just seeing the smarts of the middle and higher rungs!

I have to agree. This is what has had to happen in the past and this is what needs to happen now. These companies have gotten too big and too powerful and think they can rip the American people and get buy with it - and then ask the government to bail them out. THEY are the ones who need to change - obviously their current way of management is not working, and their product is priced beyond what the average American can pay.

i agree w/every word you say. i never had the goverment help me out when things were tough. i never ask help from anybody not that it wouldhave done any good to ask the goverment. they have never been worried about people like me. they need to be helping the folks right here in the u.s.a. instead of sending money & jobs overseas.
