Is Leftover Foods Yucky or Yummy?

Hey you don't have to ask me twice, we are the kings and queens of leftovers.. BUT WAIT! This rule doesn't fly for ALL foods, because some foods just doesn't taste right at all after it's been sitting in the fridge overnight or for several days. We make a HUGE pot of homemade chili every so often mainly in the wintertime on cold nights and I tell ya that's it's straight up BABY-LICIOUS! and it actually taste the best after 1 or more days. We have leftover chicken wings in our fridge right from lastnight, but it's at it best right after it's cooked. Do you eat leftovers or would you ONLY eat fresh foods that were just cooked?

I do eat leftovers. At least they don't go to waste that way. I have rules though. I only will save certain things that can be reheated. I only allow one and sometimes two days. After two though its in the trash.

I only allow leftovers to be in the fridge for only 1-2 days myself. It's gone before the third day.

Leftover are good when it doesn't last too long but if it does go to weekly.. It not good for human consumptions anymore, it should be consumed by the dogs or cats. So if you planning to re cook the leftovers just be sure its still good because you may end up going to the hospital because of eating the leftovers. Hope you enjoy my comment

yes you are right... we eat left overs too.... but not all foods are good to be eaten as left overs.... but we have noticed that the nonveg dishes that we cook in the indian gravy with the indian spices taste much better the next day than the day we make the dish and i wonder why ... dad says thats cos the spices get enough time to settle in and give out the flabour that actually is till the next day and thats why it tasts so good...so we make a point that whenever we make some non veg dish then we make a little more than normal then keep some for the next day to eat maybe in breakfast or lunch....

well im not too much into cooking so i wouldnt really know how the food becomes tastier the next day..... but i knwo that it does.... if you have heard of the indian biryani.... lamb biryani or chicken biryani.... keep it over night and re heat it for the next day and have it.... you will wonder where did all this taste come from..... trust me try indian spices though dont use too much they are really spicy.... but they would give a different aroma and taste to your food....

I am one of those people who really likes leftovers. I don't like leftover Mac and cheese, but I am not a huge fan of it freshly made either. I agree Chili and Spaghetti taste even better the second day usually. I like to have leftovers of both of those.

Left overs rule around here, I just don't want to cook everyday. Most of the time we use leftovers in the winter, in the summer we eat easy, just salad, meat and pasta or rice. Less meat then in the winter. It's a good think we are not picky eaters.

I'm with ya on that one pat. That's good you're not picky. There are many people that has to dig in dumpsters for their next meal. Gotta appreciate what you have.

I hate to waste food, but I dont really care for left overs, but sometimes I will make an exception depending on what kind of left overs it is, for instance I do like left over spaghetti and or pizza, but certain foods dont taste that good when there left over some foods only taste good when there fresh, so for me left overs yucky, but sometimes yummy depending on the type food. happy posting.

Good answer! It does depends on what it is, but if it's yucky my husband will tear it open.

Some leftovers are great and some are just passable. Others should just be thrown out. That being said I have to admit that this is my favorite time of year for leftovers. I will cook the biggest turkey I can find because I love cold turkey sandwiches so much.

Me and my boyfriend will eat leftovers we have no problem at all with that. I think like you said some foods just do NOT taste right or good after sitting or being in the fridge. The majority of what I make will be good reheated though and it is nice to have leftover nights sometimes and not have to prepare a meal after a long day at work.

Oh my left overs are the best. What about meat loaf. See you made my hungery and I just ate breakfast. Have a great day. I do know one thing that isn't so good the next day and that is sea food. That is best eaten right away. You have a great day and take care of your self. Your friend onlydia

miraclefreebies, Leftovers are the salt of life! When I make a meal, I already know how I'm going to turn it into a casserole! I bought these little aluminum pans with cardboard lids at the dollar store (3 for $1, made in USA) that fit perfectly in my toaster oven. As soon as dinner is over, it gets packaged and put into the fridge, so the next day, I just heat it up for a while and, voiala!!! Instant new-dish that's not like eating leftovers at all! For my leftover chili, I put rice at the bottom. Happy MyLotting!

Just loooove leftovers. Especially after Xmas. And you haven't had anything until you've tried "Hangi" leftover. That's a traditional Maori food which is cooked in the ground (for those of you who have no idea what a Maori is we are natives of New Zealand) oh, and "Boil-up" (everything cooked in one pot) is absolutely best a day or so later. Chicken can taste dry when it's been left in the fridge but can still be yummy in sandwiches with the right accompanyments i.e lettuce, tomato and mayo.

Leftovers are no big deal for me. Then again, things like broast and chips (if any would even be left in the first place) end up very soggy on a reheat and lose a lot of their flavour. Although everything is obviously 10 times better as soon as it's cooked, I don't mind a bit of leftover, as long as it fills my belly and doesn't cause it to empty in a nasty way later on in the day :D

Leftovers are always used here....absolutely no wastage! Lots of the foods we make are so much tastier the 2nd or 3rd day, such as soups and stews, pastas and curries. We also make lots of different meals from, say, 1 chicken and it really doesnt concern me how many times our food is warmed up either. Too many rules and regs surrounding our food has turned us into people who waste far too much and we also have a tendency to not think for ourselves anymore. I have heard of people who will throw away potatoes simply because it says they are older than the best before date. How daft is that??

No doubt I am the leftover queen. I think I actually eat more left overs than fresh food. In a time of economic weakness its makes us more resourceful and less wasteful. Alot of money can be saved eating leftovers. There are some limitations, especially when it comes to meat and I rarely save fish. Thanksgiving became the meal that just kept giving! Our family made a stew with some of the left overs four days later out of some of the vegetables.

we do eat left overs here but as you mentioned some things just are not good. Still, chicken, beef and things often make great sandwhiches next day. most pasta and soups are even better left over. Mashed potates are great fried up. There is not much that we serve in this house that actually makes its way to the trash.

I suppose it depends on the food and how long it has been in the fridge for .I suspect that something’s not only loose their taste but can become moldy (yes even in the fridge especially if your fridge is not turned up to maximum)after a period of time. Where I am from it is customary that you leave some of your Sunday dinner for Monday night. So you can almost be sure that in many persons fridge you will find some of our famous rice and peas and chicken sitting in our fridge ,marinating for Monday dinner lol.And believe me that is YUMMY !!! it really taste better after sitting in the fridge for a day.

I don't mind eating leftover food, but as long as it hasn't been in the fridge for more than 3 or 4 days or so. I hate to say that a lot of our leftover food does end up getting thrown away. I hate that it's such a waste of food, especially with grocery prices still being so high, but a lot of times we don't want to eat the same things twice in one week, and it goes bad before we can eat it again. I need to get in the habit of taking leftover dinners to work to eat for lunch, or if we have enough leftovers for a whole other meal and it can be froze, then to stick it in the freezer so it won't go bad. But as long as I can warm it in the microwave, or throw it in the oven for a few minutes to get it to taste pretty similar to what it did when it was first made, I don't have a problem eating it as a leftover. We would go through a lot more food if we didn't eat leftovers at our house! It's a great way to conserve food and to save money.
