There are novels based on the life of some important people. John Christopher is just an example, which is mostly sourced on real backgrounds, but given space of free expansion. The book gave great impact on so many people in those days, and was once one of my favorates. I also like to read biographies, another form of history, so to speak. But limited by the style of writing, very few remain outstanding in my memory. Which do you like more, biography or novel?

I believe I prefer autobiographies best. I like it when someone who has made it from dirt poor to some wealth in their life. These are the best stories to read. I have read some others, but the ones who start out with nothing are always the ones that keep my attention. They are also the ones that I remember the most. I also like to read positive thinking books. I like the ones that remind you that you have to keep trying if you want to get ahead in life. Keep bearing down and eventually you will get there. Of course, it seems to come easier for some than others. I guess it is all a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Hope you have a good evening zhuhuifen46!

I like many kinds of books. I especially like the old fashioned mystery novel where you have to figure it out before it gets to the end. I also like other kinds of fiction, but nothing gruesome, bloody, or horror-types. I like Christian biographies, but that is about all. I have read a few others, but I have to be in the mood and really want to read about someone else's life to read them. I also like almost all kinds of Christian non-fiction as well as general interest books of all kinds.

There are some biographies I like and even re read on occasion, such as a biography on John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson. As I've gotten older, I find myself reading more nonfiction.

As long as they're interesting, I don't mind which. Read a book based on the later years of Napoleon (not sure if it was factual) but it was very good. Have found that biographies about people from pre-20th century have more appeal for me.

I have to say that I like reading novels better. I love fiction writing. I do like reading biographies some though. I enjoy the ones about political figures especially. You can certainly learn alot about the real political scene from these biographies. I think to that autobiographies are equally entertaining, although seldom published on important figures.

Biography can be inspiring but boring. But novel is exciting as you select the kind og genre and you read a story that is totally untold to you.In biography, you need to know little about the person before you start talkin sip of it.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to read novel rather than biography. Because I think novels are usually more interesting and more catching, it will grasp my mind and drive me into those interesting stories. While some biography is also very worth reading.

I prefer biographies. I think although the style of writing is limited, its closer to reality. Its raw, making it realistic. I think some novels that are based on real life is too sensationalized. But it really depends on what a reader is looking for. If you're more into the creative style of writing then novels are for you. But if you're after reality at its "finest" then biographies are better.

i prefer novels best. Because some biographies are either boring or too heart-breaking. It really makes my heart cry when i know it's a true life story. Like after i read the Ann Frank book, i really couldn't take it. it was just SAD. At least after a novel, i would cry if the plot was really heart-breaking but i won't ponder on it because it's fictional. But if i were to know that it did happen in real life, i don't think my little glass heart can take it. I'm too emotional.

I don't like reading biography of people. I like reading novels and my favorite authors are Sidney Sheldon, Isaac Asimov and Robin Cook. I have read about 100 English and about 1000 Hindi novels.

I agree, as a breed novelists are better writers than biographers. So I tend to read novels, as a first choice, given the way you have framed the question. But I will read the biography after the novel, if the subject is outstanding. However, if the biographer is quite good and the subject is also outstanding, then I will read first the biography. I hope you are not confused by my convoluted reasoning. Actually, I make sure that the biography or novel I buy is really good by my reading large portions of the book at the bookstore. Before, I would be asked not to do personal reading, but when I explained to the booksellers that I would not buy a book whose content I do not know, they have allowed me since then to do that. But they still stop others doing personal reading, but not me.
