Great Quote on Motherhood

The most important thing she’d learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one. — Jill Churchill This is really meaningful to me because it reminds me of the fact that there is no one right way to be a good mother, and that nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, and it's the overall love and effort that matters when it comes to raising your kids. I heard once that the recipe for good kids is to marinate them in love for 18 years and beyond, and really I think that the child knowing how much you love him/her is probably the most important thing of all. So what thoughts do you guys have on this quote? Any other great motherhood quotes to share?

Wow I like that one! I am a mother too but I am still adjusting since I just gave birth 3 months ago. It is fun to be a mom yet it is sometimes hard especially if you are also a wife and a sister and a daughter. Next in line is to become a career woman so that you can help your husband in the expenses of the family. Anyway it is very challenging to be a mom, that is what I found out. I like being a mom because I enjoy taking care of my son and it is our main purpose: to procreate. Here are some of the greatest quotes I have researched: M-O-T-H-E-R "M" is for the million things she gave me, "O" means only that she's growing old, "T" is for the tears she shed to save me, "H" is for her heart of purest gold; "E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining, "R" means right, and right she'll always be, Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER," A word that means the world to me. --Howard Johnson (c. 1915) "God could not be everywhere & therefore he made mothers." -- A Jewish Proverb "Mother's arms are made of tenderness, and sweet sleep blesses the child who lies therein." -- Victor Hugo "To understand a mother's love, bear your own children." -- Chinese Proverb "The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom." -- Henry Ward Beecher "I think my life began with waking up and loving my mother's face." -- George Eliot "Mothers reflect God's loving presence on earth." -- William R. Webb "A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts." --Washington Irving My most favorite is that of George Eliot because it is so simple and the meaning is already there. That we are nothing without our mothers and we should always look back to where we came from.

That is terrific. I'll have to remember that one. Here is one from a motherhood book my hubby gave me one mothers Day. "Making the decision to have a child-it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." I think this is the truest statement mom can make.

I can't recall ever hearing that quote before, but I would definitely have to agree. We aren't given a manual with each child telling us exactly what to do and what not to do. All we can do is love our kids and try our best to teach them right from wrong. When we make mistakes, and we will make them, we have to learn from them and just try to do better. But you are right, the most important thing we can do is love them and make sure they know we are loved.

I think it's a tremendous quote and want it to be shared. I catch myself beating myself up for mistakes sometimes, and I think it's important that we all remember our humanity. Nobody is perfect, but we all have the capacity to be a really good mother. Thanks for responding!
