My bags are packed. I'll be in Washington DC tomorrow.

As one who worked tirelessly for the Barack Obama campaign, I can't tell you how excited I am at getting the opportunity to attend his inauguration ceremony and witness Barack Obama being sworn in as next President of the United States of America. I started working at Barack Obama's Philadelphia campaign headquarters putting together registration packages for the foot soldiers who went out on the streets and registered people to vote in the primaries. I knew something special was happening when box loads of completed registration forms were coming back almost as fast as I could put them together. One of my favorite jobs was working as the person who greeted those coming into headquarters wanting campaign literature or wanting to be a volunteer. Many people coming through the door asked "Do you really think Barack Obama can pull this off?" My answer was always the same. I told them "once people get to know Barack Obama they will like what they see". I guaranteed that. My favorite volunteer was the elderly woman from Bronx, New York, with the Jamaican accent, who came to headquarters tired and hungry after traveling by bus and train all morning. We fed her, made housing arrangements for her and withing an hour, she was on the phone making cold calls with so much vigor and enthusiam. Anyway, I'll be arriving in Washington DC tomorrow afternoon. I'll be staying withing walking distance from the Capital. I can actually see the Capital from the second floor of the place I'll be staying in. I'll be attending a few functions celebrating Martin Luther Kings January 19th birthday and Barack Obama's inauguration on January 20th. From all I've heard, there will be over 2 million people coming to Washington DC over the next 4 days. Do I think that there will be chaos and uncomfortable moments? Yes. Would I miss this historic event for anything in the world? No. Hopefully I will have internet access over the next few days and will be able to give you a real feel of what's going on. Watching it on TV is one thing. Actually being there will be priceless. Wish me the best. Your friend Lloyd. I'd like to thank everyone who commented on my 2 posts regarding Barack Obama's inauguration. I apologize that I haven't been able to respond to the many comments and well wishes as there's not been enough hours in the day for me to respond to all the emails, text messages, cell phone messages, answering machine messages and replies to my posts here at Gather.com and myLot.com. My thoughts were with all of you as I attended this historic event. I listened to all of your advice, stayed warm and arrived back home in reasonable shape considering the numerous toasts I partook in and the lack of sleep due to the late hours I kept. I'm glad I was able to give everyone a close-up view of the event. Hopefully I was able to give you a perspective not seen on television. I hope you enjoyed the pictures and I look forward to discussing the inauguration of President Barack with all of you. Your friend. Lloyd

You know you are the first person I thought of when it stated that those who worked close to him will be there to watch his inauguration ceremony. Now I am glad to see that I was right in thinking you would be there. Good luck, I hope the weather will be warm enough for you. Yeah, I heard that there will be more people there in at any other inauguration ever..so that is a great sign of how many people have supported him. Well good luck take care and hope your travels will be fine.

Hi Lloyd, I am white and English but I think Barack Obama is the best thing that has happened to the world in a very long time. I wish we had someone like him in Britain. I am sure you are very proud. I hope you have a great time because you deserve it after all the hard work you have done. I will watch out for your next report.

Lloyd, I wish you the best, hope you enjoy yourself, you earned this. I should preface this with my affiliation is Republican. But while I would never have voted for Obama due to his politics, I love that this happened in my life time. This is a part of History I am so glad I could be a part of. Have a safe and happy journey! Loved your story about the Jamaican woman!

I am so happy for you!!! My daughter wishes she could be there. This was her second presidential election and she was thrilled to participate and especially thrilled at the outcome! She had some of the misconceptions of youth that come mainly from lack of knowledge, but she's otherwise very astute and well-read on so many things. It's good to see you writing here again - I felt so bad for the childish antics you suffered from previously. Please take loads of pictures so we can share in the experience, even if by proxy!

Hope you had fun! It looked really packed there... and cold, lol. But it seems they all were happy and in a good mood. I watched it on TV, but couldn't catch all of it. I have kids to take care of, who are not old enough to care about something like that;)
