To save on water, try showering every other day. Take a sponge bath. It will save not only water, but your heating bills if you have to pay to heat your water.

For me, I do not. I'm fortunate in that my hot water is covered by my apartment building. Plus, I like to shower.

I love my shower too, but in the winter months your skin tends to dry more, and I find that alternating with sponge baths my skin isn't as dry.

Using less hot water saves money too.

That is a good suggestion, but a hard one! Sometimes it feels gross taking a bath because the dirt isn't going down the drain. However I have another solution, take a "bath" but at the very end rinse off with the shower. This will be only a 1 minute rinse off and it makes me feel like I've rinsed off any dirt that may have been hanging around in my bath water. Also, don't wash your hair everyday! If you have long hair like mine, this is a big one. I have friends who wash their hair daily, but I cannot because it will dry out too much. Plus it takes so much water, shampoo and time. My hairdressor said it's best to wash hair every 2-3 days, or otherwise whenever it feels dirty. If you wash it everyday, that's killing your natural oils in your hair and it's also going to make you use more water and raise your heating bill a lot!

I usually wash my hair every other day. If it looks unruly I wet it down and style it.

The only time I take a sponge bath, is when our well is broken, and there is no water. I keep water in jugs in case. I love to take long showers that are steamy.

I can always remember my nan taking a nice sponge bath as she called it, every morning! As she got older she didn't like to take a bath when she was alone in the house, so someone had to always go and be there when she did and in those days showers were a luxury. Last time i had a sponge bath i think it was when i was in hospital! I do like to take my shower in the morning.

As a child of the depression, sponge baths were necessary, especially when there are many children in the family.

I really don't like taking sponge baths, i prefer to wallow in a relaxing tub of hot water. In the winter months i rarely have a shower, i mostly have a bath. I don't consider having a bath just a way of getting clean, for me it's a whole relaxing experience, a way of relieving aching muscles and winding down after a hard days work. So for me, it's worth the cost! In any case, we do try to save water by both using the same bath water. We will run one bath and both my partner and i will get a wash in it. Since we get a wash every day we're both pretty clean to start with. I'd rather do that than have a sponge bath anyway. Also, lucky for us we have a combi boiler, so rather than heating up a whole tank of water, our water is just heated up as and when needed, so it's more economic for us. I think the weather is just too cold in England to have sponge baths, i think i'd freeze trying to stand there washing myself with a sponge! Also, doesn't it just remind you of being in hospital? I couldn't enjoy somethign that reminded me of that!

I do like to shower most of the time but sometimes i have a sponge bath. I think it does the job just as well when you are in a hurry to go out. My nan always has one every morning, she said it was the best way to start a day - nice and fresh!
