Did you knew that? i am muslim but i just recently find out about this. here's the way how it works. now u have one wife and you wanna have a 2nd then you need to divide the jobs as a housewife in 2 because of 2 wife, then the love, affection and feelings most also divided in 2. after you of this you go to your wife and ask her permission if you can.samething for the 3rd and 4th. you gotta divide all of em. Is there such thing in your religion?Do you think that your wife will allow such things?

Ahsan, it would be more instructive if you could find out about the logic of permitting up to 4 wives. Why was the idea of polygamy even considered? Like among the Hindus, polygamy was permitted but monogamy was the instruction, through Ramayana. The permission to practice polygamy was left untouched by the British when they ruled India, though they abolished Sati. However, soon after independence was gained and India formalized her legal system, in Hindu Law they simply eliminated polygamy. That was a modern step taken by the founding fathers of Indian Constitution and consequently Hindu Law. Just as the British didn't want to meddle with the social mores of the India they lived in { a once-smitten twice-shy reaction following the true cause of Sepoy Mutiny, which is when the British understood that religion is powder keg in India, the farther they keep themselves the farther they could get ahead in India) the present Indian Government also does not want to legislate on minority rights so as to conflict with the religious dicta.

In the Ramayana Lord Vishnu as Shri Ramachandra came down to earth to establish what is the right Dharma for mankind- the descendants of Manu. The whole epic and everything that Rama did is to be a standard for mankind. So no separate reference is necessary. We being brought up in the traditions of Hinduism where Ramayana is considered as the Lord's example by living, there are no declarative statements to this effect.

Men are only allowed to have one wife in my religion. I think it would be very difficult to divide love and affection exactly equally between four wives. Even the best parents are unable to divide their affection equally between their children. I think it would be even harder with spouses.

Yes, I did know that, but also know that not all Muslims practice it. In my own religion it is one woman and one man. To be honest, I would have a hard time sharing a spouse with another.

I am Mormon, and many years ago our religion practised plural marriage, but they don't anymore. I have to admit, I would have a hard time sharing my husband with another woman, but I think I would enjoy sharing the household chores. If it were something that my Heavenly Father wanted me to do, I am sure he would give me the strength to do it.
