Last month, the computer in my house which is my sister's was broken.First i don't know what happen even my brother who good at computer don't know the problem.the computer red light at my CPU doesn't flash at all.then i brought to local shop and he said my motherboard was broken/fault.before this,i saw from the internet that we cannot use vacuum cleaner to clean your motherboard because it will broke the motherboard.i'm not sure if this is true or not. Before i saw the info in the internet,i used a vacuum cleaner to clean the cpu from the dust and i vacuum a motherboard together.so,i was thinking probably the vacuum cleaner was the cause of the broken motherboard.Do you have any other opinion about this? please share because sharing is caring.thanks.

Hi japboy, I ‘m sorry to know that your sister’s computer couldn’t function anymore without any reason. The technician told you that the motherboard inside the cpu was broken. Yeah, I have heard that using vacuum cleaner to clean the inner part of the cpu would damage the motherboard of it for the motherboard is quite fragile. Anyway I haven’t used vacuum cleaner to suck the dust from the inner part of the cpu except the outer part of it. Few months back my desktop couldn’t work anymore and I had to send it to get repaired. The technician of the computer shop told me that it was most probably damaged by lighting stroke. That was the second time my computer motherboard was damaged in this way. The technician advised me to disconnect the telephone line away from the modem or router for the safety of the motherboard during rainy days. Happy posting and have a nice day.

hi ikbooi,i knew now that motherboard is really fragile,i will be careful next time.Sorry to hear that yours got broken because of lighting. My computer used to be damaged by lighting too but the lighting just broke my network card not other parts. This gave me a lesson to switch off my computer during heavy rain.thanks for the comment and have a nice day.

You are right japboy, for the sake to protect our pc, the computer technicians advise me as well not to get on the internet again during rainy days. This was the third time I came across such damage of the USB Lan and I have to spend RM28 for getting a new one 3 days back Our country is known as an area that is situated at the zone where we frequently find lightning and thunders storms. When I visited the computer shop I was told that lots of customers coming for repairing their pc which had struck by this undesirable natural disaster 3 days back. You are most welcome and happy posting.

If you are not familiar with the internal workings of your computer then it's very dangerous to open up the pc and vacuum all the dust out. I don't know if you've heard this already but there's something called ESD (Electro Static Discharge). This is very damaging to the internal components particularly the processor or cpu. If you used a vacuum cleaner then chances are that damage was caused as a result of ESD. If you are going to remove the dust from inside your pc then it's best to just use a can of compressed air, this is what I use. As someone else has mentioned, there are vaccum cleaners that are especially made for computers and they don't cause ESD. It sounds like you found out the hard way! Good luck. Andrew

i'm not familiar with the internal pc but the dust inside it make me wanna clean all the dust,i'm afraid if i don't clean it,it will make some part of the computer not working.that's why i used the vacuum cleaner. This is first time i heard about ESD.thanks for explained it.next time i will use the compressed air one.

Never, ever, ever bring any electric equipment inside your PC unless it is specifically designed for that purpose. All it takes it one bit of static electricity to permanently fry your motherboard. That's not even going into the more obvious physical damage that can be done by a household vacuum cleaner.

It is not the problem of the motherboard. You said the red light is not flashing. It the problem of the hard disk.I think the cable of the hard disk is loose or not connected properly. If think while doing cleaning the hard disk cable must have become loose.A vaccum cleaner doesn't damage the motherboard.

thanks for your comment but i have already connected the hard disk very properly and it was not the problem of the hard disk.i send the computer to the local shop last time, after he opened the casing of the CPU and watched a few second and said to me it was the motherboard problem.he asked me to change the motherboard but the motherboard that i'm using probably not available anymore.thanks again for the comment.

As the components in the motherboard are connected with one another through a minute printed circuits, they may get broken even if we apply slightly large force with our fingers. While cleaning with vacuum cleaner or with soft cloth, there are lot of chances for the circuit connections to get damaged. Not only the mother board, most of the electronic components with PCB are likely to get damaged.Care must be taken while handling these components.

There is something wrong, I mean to say If you are using vaccume cleaner to clean it wont affect your motehrboard but it just suck all the dust on the motherboard. I think by mistaken someone has broken it. Now you should use blower on motherboard which is my own experience. it will help to clean.
