What activities did your children do during the last school break?

Hi fellow parents. It's almost summer vacation for most students here in my area. I need some help from you...can you share with me what your children have done during their last summer vacation?..the two-month school break to be more specific (I am not sure if they also get to have it during summer season in your area). Did they go to summer camp? Did they take piano, guitar or voice lessons? For those who have kids who are sports enthusiasts, did they have some sports activities? Your responses would be very much appreciated. Happy mylottin!

That would be great, DancingRedFeather. My husband plays the guitar. I have yet to learn that. I tried before but the guitar didn't like me. Thanks and always be happy! God bless!

Our summer vacations are a way off yet, so I'll go on what my grandkids did last year. The family took a caravan holiday for one week, in a seaside place, which had a club and everything for the kids. Then, when back home, they had odd days out, to theme parks, the beach, the local swimming pool; summer camps tend to be taken before the vacation in Britain, so had already gone; visits to local farm centres, and my youngest granddaughter belongs to a gymnastics team, and also is learning baton twirling, so they had practice times. Other times, it was visits to the parks and walks, picnics and such. There's so much you can do with kids! Brightest Blessings.

Hi elmolovesu! I don't have children of my own but I can share with you what my nieces and nephews did last summer. They were sent by my brother to swimming lessons last summer but the swimming lessons lasted for a month only. The rest of the summer vacation, they spend it with a tutor for advance lessons for the coming school year. This summer, my brother is planning to send one to voice lesson and the rest they are still deciding what to take up this summer. My other nephew wanted to have art lessons specifically in painting. Take care and have a great day! loveslot..faith

Hi elmolovesu! A friend of my husband teaches art class every summer and my brother is thinking to send my nephew in that art class. The art class is held at their residence here in Pampanga and we are just waiting for my husband's friend to update us soon. Last year, I think he charged 3500 pesos per student for three weeks (3x a week) inclusive of art materials. lovelots..faith

Hi faith. An art workshop would be an excellent idea. Do you have any place in mind for this? Have a happy weekend and thank you for your response.

my children are grown w/children of their own. when they were young they did everything that was available around here which is not a whole lot. both my boys were into sports & i think that is really good for boys. i;m not leaving out the girls i just didn't have any, wish i did. i think sports teaches them discipline & alot of others things, some good, some bad lol. i think keeping them busy is real important.

One of the most favorite things we did for summer break is enroll in the local college's summer camps for kids. If you live near a college, they may have all sorts of summer camps for kids of all ages. We participated in basketball camps, theater camps, etc. This is a wonderful way to introduce the college atmosphere to a child and help them understand why college would be a good choice later on.

Sounds like a lot of fun, sysdexlicwriter. I'm just not sure if there are colleges here in my area that offer the same thing. Thanks for your suggestion. Have a happy weekend!

We live in a college town so we have at least two major colleges to choose from and a few side colleges. The four year college has information on their web site as does the community college. The programs are usually reasonably priced compared to other activities. One year for basketball camp my daughter was able to play basketball with the MSU Girl's basketball team. She loved it.

A calligraphy lesson would really be nice, riyasam. Maybe, when your daughter is a bit older, she would be interested in that. My daughter had to learn on her own as I don't think it is being offered here in my area. Thanks for sharing and Have a happy weekend!

Last summer my daughter was 7 and she stayed home with me and helped me babysit the kids in my daycare. She spent every afternoon in the pool for hours at a time. This summer she signed up for soccer. I am imagining that she will be in the pool during the daytime and at soccer in the evenings. We are also taking a weeks vacation this summer. We go camping almost every weekend in the summer too, so she spends her time in the lake swimming or on the Kyack.

I do not know how old your children are but I have a 12, 6, and 2 year old. There is not much for the 2 year old to do (if someone is reading this and has suggestions for the 2 year please respond). My oldest will be going to 4h camp this year. This is her first time going off to camp so I am a little worried. She also likes to volunteer at the local animal shelter. I like to get her involved with the community. She can not work yet so I try to let her see how work is through volunteering. We also have a small local zoo that offers Jr zoo keeper courses. They may have these at larger zoos. She will go there also and learn how to take care of zoo animals. She is also involved with the FFA so she will be going to a conference there there as well. There are so many things your child can do once they get passed a certain age. My 6 year old cant do much. I have focused on doing things in the community that does not cost much. She will be attended art classes at the local art gallery for 10.00 a week. She will also be going on a bird nature trail with the local park for 2.00. And learning about bats at the small zoo I mentioned for 2.00. There are many things your child can do for free or for less than 10.00. I have to focus on these things because money is tight this year so will will not get to take a big trip this year. We are just going to get a local pool membership and focus on the community. Anyone else have any suggestion I would love to hear them.

Hi Stacie. I can't think of any activities for your 2-year old child...sorry for that. Getting your two older kids involve in community activities sound very interesting and educational. My daughter is 13 and I just want to keep her busy this summer so that she won't be spending too much time playing video games. Your response is much appreciated. Have a great weekend.

my son went bowling with my parents for a day, and got to spend the night over there, but other than that it was too cold for their winter break so I hope we get to do more for the spring break that is coming up in a few weeks for him. He is only 5 yrs old, so we have just started with the school breaks, and we have a couple more months before our summer break...this will be our first one. happy mylotting!!

Our school offered baseball, basketball, football, and soccer weekly camps. So that took up 4 weeks. Check your local recreation center, ours here also offers different camps. They also got to spend a week at a baseball camp hosted by the Charleston Riverdogs, a minor league baseball team. They thought that was great, they were getting taught by professional baseball players, the price also included a free pass to a game. I know Savannah's baseball team also does this, so you might even check to see if you have a local minor team in your area that offers this.

Hi sassy. That's great...having professional players teach the kids. I'm sure a lot of kids sign up for that every summer. Thanks so much for sharing, sassy. Have a great day!
