Do you believe in paccifiers?

I did not want to give my girls a paccifier because I knew it would be one more thing I would have to take away from them but my oldest daughter began sucking her thumb and I couldn't get her to stop. She is now 4 years old and still sucks her thumb! I try still to get her to stop but she won't. Her teeth are not too bad but I can tell that they are messed up. I am thinking of using a paccifier with this baby but am not sure if I should. My youngest daughter sucks her first two fingers when she gets sleepy but her teeth are fine. What do you think?

My daughter never used a pacifier. She actually doesn't even suck her thumb. I think that as long as it isn't affecting her teeth then let it go for now. I would also check with her dentist, or doctor to see if there is a way to keep her from sucking her thumb.

Well mine is three years old and she do not sleep without a pacifier, however I wish that she will sleep without it. She cries for it and I will give it to her again since I would be very tired at night. Well I am sure that she will cut it by herself, when getting older, well I think that if the baby cries a lot as it was mine, the pacifier helps you up.

I'd have to say use the paccifier. I used them with both of my children out fear that they would suck there thumb. I sucked my thumb as a kid. I actually sucked it tell I was 13 years old. Not out of the house or anything like that at least not as I gotten older. Mostly just when i'd sleep or I was upset. It gave me a sence of security some how. I'm not sure how to explain that. Both my children used a paccifier I broke them from shortly after I broke them of the bottle that way I wasn't taking two things away from them at once. It worked fine. I haven't had any trouble with them wanted suck there thumbs or anything. My oldest is 5 and my youngest is 2. I hope this helps you with make your choose on weather to use one or not. Good luck. Happy Mylotting!!!!

I can see where your concern is with the pacifiers. However each child or baby is different. I find that if you select a certain time frame to stop the use of them it might go pretty well. It just depends on how you handle it. I took away my son's pacifier at the age of one because it was agreed upon from my husband and I to stop it at that point. There could be a little bit of a struggle but you don't want that pacifier going on for too long. As far as the sucking of the fingers and thumbs that could possibly go away in its own time. Just take each day as it comes and good luck.
