Why do kids hate BED time.

I don't understand why my son hates to go to sleep. I always do a routine. The bath, stories, singing, and a cup of milk, yet the moment he hits the crib he screams his guts out. Even if I sit in the room with him he cries and cries. What is wrong. Are all kids like this?

Yep, they're worried they're going to miss out on something. I do find, however, that if I give my kids lots of play time, running around in the yard, ect. they are more tired at bedtime, and easier to get to sleep. just a thought.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it, we have usually tried winding down in the evenings, perhaps extra activity will be the ticket. Thank you.

Hi glords HAHAHAHA I am afraid to say that yes most kids are the same at this age!! The good thing is that it does get easier as they get older and in fact in some cases ask to go to bed. My kids are now 4, 6 and 8. When my eldest was a toddler he was a nightmare to put to bed, wouldn't lie down, just wanted to run around all the time. He sometimes had me up until 11pm!! I was shattered, absolutely tired. I guess he grew out of it. My second child was never a problem and my youngest has had his moments. Now they go to bed with no problems. Keep with the routine though, eventually your child will accept that it is the norm. Good luck and stick with it!!

Thanks for the advice, and the empathy. I'm glad to know I'm not the only parent who struggles with bed time. A lot of my girl friends make it sound so easy. Putting my son down is always stressful.

.... and then it can be a bear to get them out of bed in the morning - hehe. I think the trouble is that they are afraid they are going to miss out on something.

My son was always one to fight sleep at bedtime. He made it hard. My daughter is the same way. With her though I think it is just that she cannot sit still long enough to calm down and go to sleep.

I'm glad I'm not alone. Other parents make it sound so easy putting there kids to bed.

Hi! yeah most of the kids are having trouble sleeping so easily probably their energy for the day were not all released,so their adrenalin is still rushing in them. They still want movements and having a hard time to contain themselves.I think twelve hours of waking time isn't enough for them to released all those accumulated energy.

remembering my days of youth(cough, cough)==they might miss something. Kids think mom and dad are doing all these good things they don't get to do. They are night people. There are really those of us that are night people from birth you know. They are afraid. Afraid of bad dreams, the boogy man, separation from loved one(S).

That is so sad... I hate to think he is afraid at night. All I want is for him to feel safe and sound. I wish there was a way to make him feel good about sleep.
