I arrived early to see my client today. I bought a coffe and a donut and I sat down. Next to me there were travel magazines, shape magazine and Readers Digest. I picked up Reader Digest. As I read the cover, the "New ways to scam people" pop out like a neon sign. You won't believe what I read. There was a list of at least 10 ways that people can scam you. 1. Paying off your debt. Companies that promise to help you get out of debt, and you agreed to give them a certain amount of money a month can be a scam. 2. The electricity guy. If someone comes and knocks at your door and they promised you that they can lower your electricity bill (they say that they are from "EDISON:) and they make you sign some papers, BEWARE. They will transfer you to a totally different company and your bill will be as high as the sky. 3. Wiring money to people that are in a different country. This includes the following: You will be their rep and you will receive payments, take 10% off and wire the rest. You won a huge price and you need to pay in order for you to claim it. Someone got deseased and the bank needs you to collect the money (they are not even your family members) Someone is renting you an apartment (the price is fabulous $800.00 for 3 bedrooms here in Los Angeles....woooow) they are in the U.K, Nigeria etc. they have the key and you need to wire them, first month and deposit so you can receive the keys. You are selling something trough craigslist and someone sends you a check with more money than what you are selling your item, beware. They will tell you that it was a mistake and instead of returning the check, they will ask you to cash it and wire the money somewhere else. People the economy is bad and is hunting season. Protect your money and your self from these horrible people. If you have others that I might had left out, please feel free to add them.

Wow, those are a bunch of list. So sad that people do things like this, scamming people for their own benefit. Thanks for posting this one; it's really helpful in warning people about these scam tactics. We should really be aware of all of this 'cause times are right now is really difficult with the economy and all that and we should always check our money transactions. It's hurtful and very disappointing to lose money specially if it's hard-earned.

I have seen these types of scams in my e-mail account lately and I don't like it one bit. I have receive a few email from Nigeria and they have told me that I have won an e-mail lottery and then they tell me to send them money via western union which I thought was obscured and ridiculous since I don't know who these people from a hole in the wall. Every time I receive a message that I have won anything I won't believe it and I will delete the message immediately as I know it is a scam.

It's utterly terrible what some people do for money. It's not even pure greed. This is harmful unjust cause making trouble for average money making people. I feel horrible for those people suckered into losing their own money at the same time trying to get out of debt.

cmofi123, Thank you for this sharing and I must add of those scam buyers and sellers in the online auction sites. These are just the very things where we cannot be careless and ignorant of or we will end up loosing more than we can afford. As the laws are quite different with different countries and states, we cannot be too dependent on the authorities to protect us. Besides, our actions most of the time is voluntary. So be careful than be sorry would be the best policy here.
