I am planning to buy some orchids this year but I would love to hear tips from anyone who are living in a cold place during winter...I have no idea how you keep your orchids during those time, are they like perennial plants which will just show up after winter? No clue here.... I am doing some readings at google but love to hear personal experiences from my friends here...I would love to hear from you!

I have no idea... i hope drannhh and grandpa bob can help you out... they are like the authority when it comes to gardening... and i think you know that i don't have a green thumb... most of the plants i have tend to die on me... good luck on your project... hope it turns out to be a success and don't forget to upload pics here...

Hello checapricorn, Hah, this is one question that you know pretty well I don't have the answer! You know what I mean... Since you are one of my good friends here, I still want to say something in your discussion *laughs* Maybe I should ask my mom about this cause she knows better than me who know nothing at all about plants and gardening. Hope you are able to get all the info that you need and good luck!

Rex Stout's hero, Nero Wolf grew orchids in New York/New Jersey I think you need to keep them in a green house, they are tropical plants and don't like the cold.

Hi Che, Even if I am not used to live in a cold place and not even growing orchids this time here but I will still participate in this discussion. Well, I have seen in some houses here where I visit that they keep their orchid plant inside their house during winter. I have a Filipina friend who has orchids inside her house she keep it during winter time and put it back outside in Spring and summer and when it starts to cold she will keep it inside. I have seen a Gumamela plant also inside the nursing home facility here. So, then I conclude that there are people who are growing tropical plants but they keep it warm during winter by keeping it inside their house. Good if you are living in Florida because the climate there is almost the same as Philippines. Good luck to you orchid planting.

I think that they would have to be kept in a warm polace during the winter - e have so many on our Island but we are HOT. Orchids are so picky as to where and when they want to bloom! fEED THEM ONCE A WEEK AND IF IN A POT THEN WATER UNTIL THE POT IS HEAVY - THE ROOTS AHAVE ABSORBVED THE WATER AND DO NOT WATER AGAIN UNTIL THE POT IS LIGHT AGAIN. SORRY FOR NOW TYPING IN CAPS. AM SO IN A RUSH- MANY BLESSINGS

I have never grown them before myself. I am not very good with live plants outdoors.
