Are many of your night dreams, reflections of childhood?

If I was more obedient and good (with lots of time!), I'd keep track and write down all the dreams that I remember. But do you find that many of your dreams (when you remember that), are playbacks or reminders or reflections of childhood, or at least when you were much younger? My dream last night? I was with my mom at my pull-up bar. I was a bit like I am now, with a weak dangle from the bar, trying to do 10 (which used to be a cinch for me when I was a kid/teenager). Then, I decided to pull hard core. And there I went. Another, another, another! I did 30 all the way up without kipping (jerking) up. I was so proud of myself. I never did 30 when I was younger, but as an athlete, I did about 10 to pass regular tests. And I always did a pull up on the bar in my doorway walking in or out. That's just one dream, but I've had many others reliving childhood memories.

most of my dreams are like symbols and sometimes things that will happen in the future... although from the time i dreamed it i never knew it would happen... and when it did happen, that's the time i remembered having dreamed about it. maybe because although i cherish my childhood, i have many good memories of it. i tend to always look at the future... of what will happen, how am i gonna do it, where will i be... stuff like that. so maybe that's why i have no dreams or very few dreams (that i cant remember) about my childhood.

Jayrene, Thanks for posting. Hmmm, you are the first one so far that written about NOT dreaming of childhood. That's interesting also. What is an example of a dream giving symbols and/or things that actually came true? Are they often predictable future events or are they really like looking into the future?

Jayrene, Thanks for replying again. I didn't realize you did until just now (a week later); I wish MyLot told us when somebody responded again (just tells us the first time). Glad that you analyze your dreams and link it to life. Wishing you happy dreams bringing on happy future days! :o)

sometimes they are predictable sometimes they are not... most of my dreams that are like symbols, are dreams of animals... once i dreamed of a mice, at first i didnt bother about it, its really vivid its like i am awake... i saw this mice above me, i was looking for it a very long time, and its just there sitting on the corner of the top wall.... after some time, i dreamed it again, and then again, and then again... it got me to thinking that there was something about it, but i didnt really know what the meaning was and there was no internet then to search for it. after some years, we really experienced hardships, poverty... our business went down... then i remembered my dream. it was a warning that i did not foresee, because i dont know the meaning... i could have done some saving before our downfall... that was a lesson i never forgot. i dreamed of other animals too... but not all animal dreams of mine tells about what will happen in my future... only those dreams that i feel uncomfortable when i wake up and those that stays in mind for a long time (days), those kind of dreams i really try to figure out, because it says something about what will happen to me so i need to do something about it, prepare for it... i dreamed about other people too... that they are going to leave for another country, and they were packing their things... and surely did after some months, that person in my dream went overseas, their whole family. i dreamed about someone i knew, that she's gonna be having a baby... she came home never told us that she was already pregnant, when she came and told us, i said... i know... and she asked me how i knew... and i said i dreamed about it. there are also dreams that i have like dejavu... you know when i am at this place even though its my first time, i have this feeling that i've been there before... then after some time i remember that i have dreamed about it... exactly like it was in my dream.

Chingmerry, thanks for posting a reply. Dreams are so unknown to humans. We dream of such strange things that seem so normal when they are going on in our heads, and they often seem to be about thigns that have NOT been on our mind or that have NOT been going on our lives at this stage. They are long ago dreams all left in a way peripherally in our minds.

Not really. My dreams don't tend to have memories in them. In fact, very rarely am I ever actually in my dreams. I tend to have dreams of stories...as a writer, I can tell you that most of my inspiration, most of the pages I've ever written come from my brain's activity when I sleep. It's rare for me to dream about an issue close to me, or something about my life.

Yeah, it's usually like a movie inside my head ^_^ like something I might find watching tv, though obviously my own subconscious' creation. On an awesome day, it'll have smells and a sense of realism added to it too. If I trained my brain, I didn't do it on purpose, heh. Every now and again, I make it a matter of curiosity to see if dreams are a common inspiration among writers...but most of the time I just go with the fact that it's mine. Why haven't you written more in print, dearie? =)

Oh, I would have replied earlier if I'd known you re-replied. (I wish MyLot told us!; they only send emails out on your first response). I hadn't heard much about writers writing their stories, based on (or told by) dreams. Yes, I do wish I got more in print. But went in cycles. Getting started in the publishing life isn't easy to get started, esp. when you start off with a long, several hundreds page book, on the side of your actually work and day to day events. Wish I had better discipline like you for writing! ;o)

Oh, xParanoiax, That's GREAT to have dreams giving you the stories that you will illustrate into a book or your writing pieces. I've done a deal of writing over the years (though not enough in print!!). ;o) Perhaps you have trained your brain to use the dreams as productive sources in your works. Good for you. And I am assuming that you dream not of words in writing form, but in actual picture/scenes that you put into words.

I know that many of the dreams I have had are reflections of memories from the past, but they aren't exactly always real memories, some are just with people that I have known, or family that have past, and some are just dreams of people that I am supposed to know, maybe a representation of people I do know. I used to write down my dreams but no longer do so because well I don't follow them as closely as I once did. Dreams are very interesting things.

Cowgirl, Thanks for your posting. I, like you, used to write them down. Dreams ARE so interesting. I wish I could remember all of them. Now and then when I look back and read some of my old dream diary entries, the dreams come back so clearly into my mind. Ones that I have not written down, mosty I barely have any recollection of them.

Thanks for replying again. (Sorry I didn't realize you did since MyLot doesn't tell me when somebody reposts again.) But interesting. Don't throw away anymore diaries. I'd look back and wish so much later in life to read them to see what my life was like, with dreams. :o)

I am the same way with when I looked back at the diary. I threw the diary away when I moved. I do remember one dream so clearly though it was very scary.

Many of my dreams are related to my previous experience, sometimes the childhood anecdotes, the working experience, the old acquaintance, childhood playmates. The dream is always strange, because what will never happen in reality appear in the dream. Most of them are close to real life. I have learned English many years, but in fact I seldom speak in public, but in the dream, I can fluently and naturally speak English in front of many people. The last dream is related to my former colleagues, work unit. I seemed to go back to the former life.Until this morning, I still stay in the memory of the past.

Dear Rainbow, Thanks for posting. Yes, isn't it peculiar how dreams always seem to have some unrealistic things that seem realstic when they occur? Wouldn't your friends be delighted to hear that they reunited with you your dream? I'd be honored if long ago friends dreamed about me (at least if they weren't bad dreams). ;o)

My dreams actually tend to be more about my desires. I tend to dream about this one girl I want to see again. Sometimes, though, I dream about my darkest fears, and some of the stuff in my life I find undesirable. I've been keeping a dream diary, and I've been making a habit of writing down the few dreams that I have.

Bishounen, Thanks for responding. How good of you to keep a dream diary. I did when I was a teenager; I wish I had the time and patience to still do so. But maybe one day I will again. It's when I write them down that I start remembering them much more often. I wish you some more HAPPY dreams. :o)

Well, I don't dream often, but when I do, I write down my dreams the moment I remember to. Actually, it's something I've been doing kind of recently. It started as an attempt to figure out the landscape of my mind, and try to figure out what's going on in the back of my mind. It also has something to do with searching for the supernatural.

Sorry I didn't get back to you last week. I wish that MyLot sent you notice that somebody re-replied. (It tells me when you first reply, but not the second time.) And it took me a while to eb able to figure out how to find this original posting of mine, without getting notices. Thanks for posting.

I can't remember any dreams about my childhood, but I do have many different kinds of dreams. I often dream of my parents and brother who have passed on, and in most of the dreams I visit them or they visit me. I also have the kinds of dreams that I become aware I'm dreaming and then I try to do all kinds of things, like fly, or go exploring. Sometimes my dreams seem so real, I might wake up confused and wondering where I am. Once I dreamed I was running down the road, and I felt good, and could run real fast. I thought it was so much fun that I tried to run, but I'm so slow, I never could run like I did in the dream.

Thanks for best response! I just had a dream the other night that I was with my future grand-nephew who is due to be born in September. In the dream he is about 18 months old, and he's got blond hair and brown eyes. My nephew and his wife had a sonogram, but they want to be surprised as to whether they are having a boy or a girl, so I'm not going to tell them about my dream in case it comes true. I can hardly wait to find out, and see the new little one in my waking life.

You are very lucky to have had a wonderful childhood! Mine was very traumatic. I did have some good times but I can't remember most of them because of having a memory block. However, my memory can be triggered by a comment from someone else. Like someone said something about my granddaddy reading to me, then my memory came flooding back. I'm glad it did because those were wonderful times that I wish to remember. I know a girl who's memory is totally blocked and nothing can be triggered. She wishes she could remember some of the good in her childhood but she can't remember anything. Don't get me wrong, I've had some good times, I just can't remember them unless someone were to say something about it, sometimes it'll come back and sometimes it won't.

Always good to hear from you, though sorry to hear about your traumatic childhood. I did have periods of time that were very difficult, and I never remembered a numbe rof them until I had flashbacks. But I'm glad that you had some rushing memories of your granddaddy. And in a way, it is likely good that you do not remember some of the traumatic times of childhood. Wishing you many, many HAPPY MEMORIES to form now and on in your life, hun. :o)

Hmm. It depends would being chased by a 40ft tall T-Rex in a class house be considered a childhood memory? Usually, I don't think that they are at all related to my childhood, but some parts are(I think). Though, I don't remember much of it. I guess some things in my dreams are from my childhood, which trigger specifics things that sometimes I can remember(Not often.) So overall, I don't think they are reflections. Maybe pieces, perhaps.

Hi there! Thanks for posting. :o) Chased by a 40 ft. T-Rex in a class house, ha ha (I think ha ha, at least), I suppose would be a childhood memory if it was a dream or dread that you had during childhood. And if the class hosue is where you used to go. Since I posted this, I can't remember any of my dreams, but maybe now that I got a reminder, I will start remembering more. :o)

Most of my dreams are in my present age or slightly older. Maybe it's because I'm still in my early twenties.

Thanks for the posting. Interesting. I can't think of any dreams I have had that are "future" as in being older in them. Probably the majority is current age for me.
