What to eat while in a motel

I am a bit of a cheap skate but I do not go to the level where I will go overboard with the fact. We are staying at a motel, and we get breakfasts free from Monday to Friday and we have to pay for the rest of the meals and is it ever expensive, so instead of eating there, we have been going to the grocers and picking up a can or two of stew meat, ordering from MacDonalds, Tim Hortons, or going to the Mall or to a restaurant and getting take out. It is a little cheaper that way and I find that is what many of our friends do, they go and ordered food in or cook in their rooms. So what do you do when you go on a trip, do you eat at the restaurants, or do you bring food in and heat it in the microwave in your room?

Thats silly to raise prices to attract the gambling people they look for deals also. Here we have a great buffet at MAin Street casino on Main street ya can go in just before the luch deal still have breafast and if ya stay long enough can get lunch too good deal for the money! Think it is still $11 for all ya can eat!

You're welcome. We like to eat some place that is cheap as long as food is good. We love Tim Hortons, but good cheap restaurants are hard to find. Most of them are moderately to expensive, the best one we have around here is Smitty's and you can get a good Taco salad, or bacon and eggs for around $11.00. They used to not have a good selection, but they improved so much that our friends switched from going to Aldo's that is near the Canad Motel to Smitty's because the former raised their prices because they wanted to attract the gambling crowd.

My vacations have consisted of either meals are included, or we have a motel where there is a kitchen and we buy food and cook. If we stay at relatives house we eat homemade meals and maybe out two eat a couple of times only. My last vacation was in PR where I was staying with family and we usually cooked our meals and ate dinner out twice and fast food for lunch a few times. Its just to expensive to eat out every night while on vacation.

We used to stay with relatives, but most of them moved, so now we have to stay at a motel. The relatives who remained would treat us for bbqs or restaurants, but since there was not as many, it seemed no sense at boarding at their house and what happened was that my husband would often contribute to the food, or pay for some of the meals. We ate the motel breakfast because it was free, but when we were in Saskatoon, we would eat at Deny's because it was my sister-in-law's favorite. I did not like Deny's that much, but it was a short distance from the motel we were staying at.

We go to Tim Hortons or the nearest place and order take out or I will go to a food court and get something from there if it is close enough. Otherwise I will pick something up at the nearest grocers and use the microwave and the fridge to store the salad stuff. That way it is a lot cheaper.

when I'm lucky enough to have a microwave in the room, I use it where I can eat AT the hotel, very seldom, heck, when the house was redone, I tried to cook as much as I could in the little kitchenette in the hotel for my former roommate, cooking for me is always a chancy thing, but I did it

We have to eat out when we are in a trip, but when we staying close to home and within walking distance, like when we are having renovations, we wil often pick up something from the nearest supermarket and when the renovations are done, will take the non perishables home. We usually have a microwave in the room and a small fridge when we are taking a trip but we do not use it that much but usually when we went on a trip, we did not stay for three weeks. One week was good enough.

I rarely order out when I travel or have to stay at a motel. I'll go to a grocery and pick up a cheap frozen dinner or a loaf of bread and some deli meat or peanut butter. For the cost of a meal at the motel, I can feed myself for days! I was stuck at a motel one winter when I was house hunting and there was a blizzard. There was no microwave in the room, just a coffee pot and no fridge. So I went across the street and got packets of soup, some tea, bread and some tuna. I used the coffee pot to heat up the soup and had tuna sandwiches. The tea was delicious, especially since the heater left a bit to be desired! All in all, it was a cheap and tasty way to enjoy being snowed in.

When we were at the motel near our house, we could just go to the local Superstore or to Tims or another place and bring food in. Only we had to move to another motel and there were no grocers or other restaurants or fast foods nearby. The food was good, but did not exactly like the prices and I made sure I ordered the cheapest.

Yes, it is cheaper to bring some of the food you need that can be reheated in a microwave, such as snacks or breakfast or even lunch items, but only so much can be made in a microwave and have it taste good. We generally eat out at a restaurant for dinner. We try to stay in a place with a kitchenette, so we can make simple meals with a stove and not just rely on the microwave.

It is not easy to eat out of a microwave when you have no proper plates. We have been going to Tim Hortons and saving the cups from the soup and chili, but they can only be using it once. Unfortunately the restaurant at the motel was expensive and because there was a casino nearby they did not allow any other concessions rather then MacDonalds nearby.

It really depends on the kind of trip. Generally, I like to bring food from home or buy it at a grocery store and make it in the hotel room. Not all hotels/motels have refrigerators or microwaves, though. But, I still like to get some meals out as I feel like that's part of the fun of traveling.

We asked specifically for a microwave, ostentially so we could warm up the coffee, and they knew about the renovations, so it was all right with them.

Hi suspensful, I would not be buying MacDonalds, but some bread or dolls, and making salad sandwiches and rolls. I can live on these for weeks at a time. In fact when I was working away from home for six months, I lived this way. I di go home at weekends for a good cooked meals.

IHOP usually... if there's not one near by I'll try for a denny's or wafflehouse, generally anything that's 24 hour and cheap... I try to stay away from fast food preferring the diners a bit more...

Motels/Hotels don't mind you getting your meals from other places, their own meal services are often done through a catering company if they don't have their own restaurant, so it isn't a concern for them if you get your food else where. One trip my partner and I took our expenses were paid for by his work (I was heavily pregnant and it was a case of I and our oldest didn't go, then he wasn't either). Our meals came from the motel we stayed at, and were very yummy! Normally, we would budget and if that meant not being able to eat their meals, then that's what it meant.

When i travel i tend to take some nutrigrain bars and oatmeal togo bars for breakfasts. I take the soup to gos and bread for lunches. If i get a room that ahs a fridge I'll pick up some sandwich meats for lunches. For suppers i go out for food.

A cheap skate would be somebody who orders a dinner and then complains about the prices before the check comes. Eating out is expensive, when we are stuck in a motel we will buy what we can cook in it, if it has a kitchenette or if we are staying in a hotel we just go out to eat.

Oh we look at the menu and try to order the cheapest or cheaper then the host is having. What I do is ask if I can have something that is a little more expensive. Usually it is a desert because I happen to love cheesecake and if we get a big enough piece I can share it. They usually do not mind me buying something because we seldom go out. But when we are in a motel where the food costs a bit, we thought the food was reasonable but the next time we are hungry, we will decide to either go out somewhere else to eat, but since my husband could not get around, he asked me to go to the nearest Tim Horton's or a restaurant that was reasonably priced and order take out or go to the nearest grocers and get a tin of stewing meat or whatever, plus some buns so we could cook it in the microwave and eat in.

I do a combination of both! I find that I cant eat at a restaurant every meal of every day. It is just too much for me! When my husband and I travel within the US, we usually take food for breakfast and lunch. (If the hotel serves breakfast then we dont bother with that) We will usually eat dinner out at a restaurant. We also make sure we have tons of snacks. The machines and snack shops get way too expensive! When we travel abroad, we eat dinner at restaurants. But for lunches and breakfasts, we either eat something on the go - like from a bakery - or we shop at the local grocery store. That way we still get all of the good foreign foods, but we dont have to spend a fortune! The key is making sure where you stay has a fridge.

We find that the healthy food is more expensive. For instance, the free breakfast we get, the only healthy part was when I ordered hot cereal,i.e. rolled oats and they included raisins and brown sugar with that plus cream, not milk, so I would have the cereal with the cream and a few raisins. And the only time we got an orange and a slice at that, was when we had porridge, or hashbrowns, eggs, and bacon or sausage not with just toast. And we had a choice either coffee.tea, or orange or apple juice. So either we bought food in, or ordered from Tim Hortons or MacDonalds.

I think I would take my food with me if the meals are so expensive like this in those motels ... to save some money ... I can spend my money on many ways that I would enjoy more ...

On our trip we took sandwich fixings a lot. I have been known to bring a small electric appliance (before microwaves). I would go to the grocers if I was there for a long term stay. They expect it, or they would not furnish you with a microwave.

When I travel, I budget to get food there. I can eat regular food from the groccery store when I am at home. When I am on vacation, I really like to have something different, so I budget accordingly. I put aside as much money as I think I am going to need for food when I travel.

When on hotel I may consider having self made sandwiches or any raw food. I like raw food in general, so apples and carrots are good for me..... I may also have something from the grocery store... If I have time and money I can eat in the restaurant...

Depends on the budget. When I was in college and we went to Spring break with almost no money. We brought a hot plate with us, and we also brought Spahgettios, and soup and things like that. But we had practically no money at all. Once I went to a wedding while my husband stayed home with the kids I stayed in a hotel by myself. In the evenings I someone would come and get me and bring me to the various wedding activities but until like 4:00 PM everyday I was left at the hotel to fend for myself. The hotel provided breakfast, but there were no restaurants or any other places to get food near my hotel, the nearest place was across a double 4 lane highway. So what I did was take some bread up to my room along with the peanut butter and jelly they served at breakfast, and some fruit. I managed to get some plastic wrap too. So for lunch I would have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fruit. It got me through the three days I stayed there, and held me over till dinner.

I love to eat pizza wherever I go. I'll do go to grocery to shop for the drinks and some chips.

me and my husband are always on trip together with my little son. I always packed food and snacks that will last for days. In between we do take out or go shopping and take it to the motel, if the motel have no coffee maker we go out for a breakfast because i love hot coffee in the morning.
