When would you start shopping

for school supplies. The school sent home my daughters supply list with her final report card. I am thinking getting the stuff together early and not having to worry about it the closer the school year gets. Dealing with the crowds and picking through what may be left doesn't appeal to me.

I tend to do all the back to school shopping all at once. I'd rather do bits at a time all through out the summer, but I never do. Then August comes around and I'm franticly counting down the days until they go back, reminding myself I haven't started shopping yet!

See, that's me too. Regardless of the "sale" aspect, I think ealier will give me piece of mind.

Most people wait for the back to school sales so they can buy extra. My mom usually waits till the last minute sometimes like a few days before school. But this year because she bought extra my sister has alot left from this school year. So she will only really need the tissues and glue. But I understand not wanting to trifle with whats left or get elbowed by a crowd. Had that done a few times. Or someone reaches for the last 3 ring folder that you need.

I start shopping for school supplies the month that I have to go to school. I go to college and I try to get school supplies when they are on sale.

If I run into a good sale before school starts I will pick up things that are on sale but if that does not happen I usually wait for out tax free weekend that happens right before school starts back. That has been the best time for me to pick up items. Clothes, notebooks, book bags, folders, etc. I do hate the crowds but I love the sales and the no tax weekend!

For me I will start my shopping for school supplies a month before the first day of school start so that it will not be crowded, that I could choose the best supplies for my children without experiencing rush. Also so that I will know what they will need for school

When our boys were young, we had a day off for shopping after Labor Day. (Our province was sort of against families spending time together on Labor Day, they have since change their minds and come to their senses, but it was too late for our boys so we had to cut our vacations short.) Now that the schools give their supply lists at the end of the school year, most parents shop in August before Labor Day and that is when we get the good bargains. Also it is not as crowded as it would have been if they took a half day up after Labor Day and everyone rushed to Walmart or Staples, the main stores that we get our school supplies from here in our neighborhood.

Wow are schools don't require you to buy any supplies before school. My daughter is going into first grade this coming school year. If I had a list of supplies to get her I probably would start slowly picking everything up over the summer too. I like to stock up on the notebooks just for around the house. Walmart sells the single subject notebooks for around 10 cents a piece when it gets closer to the school year. So I grab about 20 of them for $2.00 and I'm stocked up for at least the year if not longer. I'll be good to go if my daughter needs any for school lol.

Sure, why not! I have a big box of school supplies that I go through every year and pick out the stuff I already have before going shopping and I replenish the stock every year too. I have several boxes of crayons, markers(thin and wide), colored pencils, note pads, loose leaf paper, pens and pencils.

I'd just get the stuff the first sale I see. Target or even Office Max have great sales - 1 cent to 25 cent stuff. I'd just put in on my calendar for August...save a little beteween now and then and then let her have at it! With a limited budget, it was one of the things I was able to do with my kids when they were in school...carte blanch for school supplies on the sales! We didn't get list of stuff... just the general stuff was always needed but I know now the school required you to supply even the kids own kleenex and hand sanatizer!! But back in "the good old days"... it was a great fun time for the kids...they could choose their own backpak (that had a cash limit on it!) but then pick whatever they wanted from the sales. Even if it was not for school but for home... they could get 2 of anything. They loved it and I loved watching them love it!

That's good idea of yours, but in mycase, i usually buy school stuff for my sibs a week before the classes starts together with them so that they can choose what they like. I can't buy those stuff earlier because i need to wait for next month payday to afford it. Happy posting.

I have just finished shopping a week ago. As you can see, this week here in our country is the start of the school season. So a week before that, I have already completed and bought all the things that my child needs for school. I agree with you that it is better to shop early to avoid the crowd. It is very easy to choose and you can easily move around.

My son’s school too, sends a list of books and copies are other requirements, alongwith his final report card. However, they mention specific days for specific classes when the parents can go to the school and pick up the stuff. I find that really convenient as I have to take that day off from office so, it helps in advance planning. Also, there’s no question of leftovers as there’s no choice. All the books and copies are compulsory along with craft and origami packages (well, I can get old books from students of previous class, but I don’t) and they are all packed by the school in individual group packs. We just have to stand in queue (the worst part) and then pay at the cash counter, wherein they issue a coupon…we go to another counter and pick up the packets after producing the coupons.

I would shop for them as soon as I seen the good sales for them. I would aslo ask the school for the list of supplies that my child will need also so I can be prepared for it.

Well, that sounds like a good idea, giving the list at the end of the year that is, but things may change over the summer such as teachers and curriculum. I am with you on getting a headstart on things though. You could even pick up a few items at a time when you go to certain stores throughout the summer, and have everything together by the time school starts. And you are right, no one wants the picked over stuff that's left the night before school lol.
