3am is the devil's hour - belive it? do you wake up in the middle of your sleep?

I heard that 3am is the devil's hour when I saw a clip from The Exorcist. The priest says that it's the devil mocking The Hour of Christ's Death (3pm). I don't/never watch horror films because I get nightmares for weeks and I tend to lose sleep. This particular information/scene was one of the most memorable clips in all movies for me. Why? Because I always wake up at 3am (ranges from 2.30am-3am) for no apparent reason. I just jolt right up and am dizzy and quite shaken. Then I feel like I HAVE to get up, if I don't, I'll never fall right back to sleep. So I simply do and go to the bathroom then come back. I never have trouble falling back to sleep after that. But it does trouble me when I just suddenly wake up at that supposedly scary hour. Do you get nightmares from watching scary movies? Do you wake up in the middle of your sleep for no apparent reason? And do you have any trouble falling back to sleep after? Do you think there's any truth that 3am is the devil's hour is it just another superstition?

That is really interesting to note. This is the first time I heard about it but I usually wake up at that time too, but I never did realized that it is the Devil's hour or what. What I usually do..? Well if I could not lull myself to sleep again then I would watch TV. I would choose a boring channel then it will definitely lull me to sleep again.

I love watching horror movies, although my friends who watch with me gets really annoyed coz I shout my heart out everytime (lol!). And with nightmares? I guess it's part of it. I a lso have nightmares for nights after watching a horror movie, and even if I am awake, I get creepy imaginations of hallways and dark parts of our house. Regarding the 3AM thing, I think I also saw in another movie (I am not sure of the title, but the main character's name is Anne), that the devil's hour is around 3AM too. When I was pregnant, I usually wake up atleast 10 minutes before or after 3AM, and I get all those creepy imaginations, coz I could've wake up around 2AM or 4AM... but why 3? Since I am a Catholic, if I get to wake up around that time... I pray the 3oclock prayer (Divine Mercy), and with that, I feel relief.

I do not like to wake up in between sleep. If i do so, it would not be easy for me to go back to sleep. I have woken up many times during 3 a.m. and i have not seen any ghost. Is there something called a ghost !!!

Oh really? I have heard of something similar - when you comb your long hair right at 12:00 midnight in front of the mirror, you will see yourself has something strange happen... I never tried to do that before because I don't know if this rumor is right or wrong, it sounds really weird to me though. I wake up in the middle of the night once in a while, most of the time is from 2:30-3:30 too. If I wake up like that, I have harsd time falling asleep back.

Hi oyenkai!! i watched that movie , The Exorcism of Emily Rose and the part/words of that movie that i clearly remember is that the 3am is the devil's hour. Like you i also get awake before 3am most of the time for no reason and i really can't control not to turn my head where the wall clock is placed just to know if its 3am, I really feel scared when the time is exact 3am.. also, there are times that am still awake between 2 to 3 am and i really can't stop to look at the clock. If i am so tired or if i have appointment early in the morning i really force myself to sleep again by turning the light off and i use blanket to cover all over my body . if i don't to these things it will take time to fall asleep again. I can't say that there's a truth about 3am or it is only a superstition, but what i believe is that 3pm is the hour of mercy. Good day !!

I've also heard that quite a few times. I used to wake up at 3 am every night. I was never having bad dreams or anything I just woke up at that time every night feeling really startled. I'd go get something to drink and go back to sleep. It always kind of made me feel wierd. I do watch horror movies and very few have ever bothered me. The exorcist had a lot of weird things happen on set. It does make me wonder. There is supposed to be an exact moment on the old copies (old vhs) of the exorcist where you can pause and see the devil on the clip. I've never done it because my copy was a newer release version of it.

I usually don't have nightmares after watching horror movies. I guess most horror films don't phase me much. I usually have nightmares when I don't watch horror movies, ha ha. I usually wake up during the night at least once. Normally, I don't have trouble falling back to sleep, but every once in a while I feel somewhat more alert and have some difficulty. The whole 3 am thing is based on European folklore and is referred to as the "devil's hour" or "witching hour" (sometimes regarding the hours from midnight to 3 am) because it is believed to be the optimal time for doing anything supernatural. People can also make arguments for this hour based on the Christian religion. A lot of paranormal investigators like to use this hour to attempt communication with spirits. I don't know if it is effective or anything.

More people actually believe that than you'd think. I'm not very superstitious myself so I don't really believe in that. Yes, I woke up a few times at 3 a.m but it was mainly because my bladder could almost not cope with its contents. If this is in fact true, you needn't worry; if 3 a.m is truly the Devil's hour he cannot harm you because according to the Bible, Satan lost all his powers. You might get scared for some reason but nothing too bad. Just think about the fact that there are worse things in life than waking up in the middle of the night

Hi oyenkai! very interesting discussion you have chosen. I do not believe it and it is only a horror fiction and nothing more than that. The winner of Oskar Award A.R. Rehaman (Slum Dog Millionnaire fame) practice his tunes only during these hours and other singers, musicians, artists practice during this time only due to calm, cool atmosphere present at that hours. The impact you had on the Exorcist movie may be the reason for you to get a disturbed sleep and wake up at 3am. Since it happened to you for some days it has become regular. You can break this cycle if you drink a cup of hot milk everyday before retiring to bed. This will help you overcome your disturbed sleep to a mere sound sleep thereby your cycle of wake up at 3am may be postponed to say 3.30am, 3.45am, 4.00am, 4.15am and to a desired time in some days. Slowly you will come out of this cycle or situation wake up at 3am. There is no devil or no superstition. This is purely a nervous debility and stress. Best of luck.

I bleive time belongs to God, the devil has no contol over time. #am is actualy a good time to pray a bit and then go back to sleep. I heard many people sa they wake up for no reason nad then just feel they have the urge to pray for someone, or something, the they sleep again. Don't listen to the devil, he's a liar. I don't like horror films, they seem so meaningless, and gives nightmares. May you wake up next time at 3 and feel good, do something and have a good refreshing sleep further. Blessings

The only scary movie that really gave me nightmares was the Freddy Kruger series when I was young...the one where the boy gets yanked through his bed...I had nightmares about that for weeks. I wasn't supposed to see it but I snuck down when my older brother was watching it. I do wake up several times a night, usually from leg cramps. I walk them out, go potty and head back to bed. Usually I can just fall back to sleep. As for the devil's hour...I think that's more power of suggestion then anything. Alot of superstition is that way. If you don't believe it, it shouldn't make a difference to you. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I never heard this thing before. I don't have nightmares when I see horror films, in fact I prefer horror films than mushy romantic films. I also wake up at 3:00am out of the blue my eyes darted on the ceiling for few minutes and I tossed from different position in the bed before drifting to sleep again.

3 am is supposed to be an hour where spirits are most active. If you've ever watched any shows about "ghost hunting" they will always investigate at roughly 3 am. If you have a falling feeling and then suddenly wake up, it's said to be your soul re entering your body. It's said that when you sleep sometimes your soul will come out and travel. If you wake up just suddenly for no reason, it's a possibility that there may be something there with you. You may or may not feel threatened by it.
