Are you it?

what do you do - Is it what you wanted to do as a kid?

When we are kids we tend to have pretty definite ideas of what we want to be when we grow up. Time passes. Sometimes we end up being exactly what we wanted to be as kids, sometimes we don't. There's nothing wrong with that, people change and grow. Interests sometimes change too. Or sometimes we just can't afford the costs. When I was a kids I wanted to be a doctor - many kids seem to want that LOL -. As I grew I changed, not in my interest of working with people and helping, but just in the how I would want to do it. I loved languages, I loved learning, and I loved to be able to help people, enlarge their horizons. I ended up in teaching. And I certainly have enjoyed it all this years. What about you. Are you it? Are you working exactly on what you use to dream as a kid, or is your profession different but within the same group of interests, or completely different?

I wanted to be a poodle dog and then I wanted to be Captain Kirk's wife... needless to say... I never made it on either score!

No, the only thing that really grabbed my interest was library work, and I have only substituted doing that in the schools, a long time ago. I have worked more in things that I always swore I would never do.

Yes, sometimes that happens too. Hopefully you enjoyed those other jobs as well. P.S I worked in a library during one summer. It was some sort of government program to find jobs for students. I begged them not to put me in the library because I knew I couldn't be trusted around so many books. They didn't listen to me ... they also rarely saw me while I was working in there LOL I was in some lonely corner trying to read as many books as I could hehehehe Their mistake, I tried to warn them

When I was younger I wanted to be a teacher. I was always good with kids from a young age. Then as I got older what I wanted to be changed a few times. I knew that I always wanted to be a mother. I had thought about starting my own daycare but then I got tired of dealing with parents while working in daycares. So really the thing I wanted most was to have a family. Now I have 3 great kids and a wonderful husband.

I always think that the main thing is that we're doing something we like. And I can see that you really enjoy children. I was tempted to work in day care when I came to Canada, but for some reason not tempted enough LOL I love teaching and have a great time either teaching kids or adults. Although after so many years, sometimes I think I am loosing a bit of my patience :)

When I was younger and more idealistic I was appalled at the joke about the 3 things teachers like best (June, July, and August) and when I was a teacher and "wasted" my summers I was still pretty chin up about it all because teaching was absolutely my calling. BUT... Now I'm doing what I finally realize I was born to do: BE RETIRED! I was SO sure that after retiring then in a few months I would just go to another location and start over, but NOT! To my surprise I don't miss working a bit.

I'm starting to think I was born to be retired too. I am noticing that although I still enjoy what I do, I'm looking forward to weekends and holidays, while I never did before, so I probably should take the hint LOL
