Hi johndevis1234, I will advice you to stick to windows XP.Its the best operating system till date.It gives you maximum resolution for your games, lets you multi-task very easily .But still if you you want to change the only option you have is vista. I have another suggestion for you.You can have XP and VIsta both at the same time. The installation is a little complex. But i am sure you can manage it.Run your games in xp and for other applications use Vista.

@ suparnodatta well windows 7 is actually a rectified version of the previous vista, there is no much difference between vista and windows 7 so should be able to run the programs that you run on vista.... but i have to say windows 7 eats your system memory as much as vista does but in return gives you a much better response than vista... so windows 7 is a better option than vista... but the true comparison can be only done once w7 sp is released, still windows 7 is currently a better option to vista...

i failed to understand why you need to upgrade your operating system. do you have any problem with your current operating system. till date the best operating system available is windows xp itself. so don't trouble yourself with an upgrade. if you just want to experience another operating system then i would suggest a linux live CD. [my favorite is DSL (Damn Small Linux)] you do not need to install and it runs directly from the CD.

You can use Obuntu . It is very user friendly. In my view, this is best Linux operating system. Thank you.

Hello, You could alternatively try to use Microsoft's Windows 7, it is much better than Windows Vista, and hopefully better than Windows XP. Or you could try to use MAC OSX or something else. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

I suggest you wait for some time till windows 7 is out there. It has loads of features any computer user would want. For gaming it used the graphics resources very efficiently and also its desktop look is a good one. My experience suggests that it is the fastest windows operating system ever launched. Try it..

Windows Se7en...best operating system till date...superb performance, really cool and reliable, supports all softwares and consumes less RAM, easy to operate and easy to progress through...An excellent job by Microsoft...Playing games, working, watching movies, surfing nets and high end graphics tasks all are possible in this operating system...Cheers!!!!!!!!!!

my friend, if you have atleast 1 gb of ram then i will suggest you to use the latest version of windows 7. i have been using thing for more than a month now and i can tell you one thing, it is very stable and fast. i mean i have been using it with all the visual elements on at 1 gb ram and i can never feel a lag in the performance of the computer. it is stable and fast. plus it has so many new options which makes you life so easy. so all in all this is the next best thing from microsoft after XP

i think you shold wait and see for the new windows os th 7 one it will be available soon in october i guess!! Anyway i think even linux os are good choice in the os world now especially for its open source policy and its development really interesting in the last years!!Anyway i think for operations you descrbed i guess a disreibution as ubuntu will be ok..also for office considering the open office will be really ok and equal to the ms office that ou pay the license!! Surely as regards games i think windows os will be better also because many high target games need the last direct x version available on windows...so on linux you can searhc and install some mulators but i think that for videogames windows will eb better...

I have a desktop with Xp and a laptop with vista. I think I like Xp better though as I have ahd a lot of problems with vista hanging and locking up. It is so frustrating that I want to toss it out the window. I don't know anything about the new OS coming out, but I hope it is better than others that haave been out there. I don'tknow if I will get a new computer with windows 7 on it or not, as this one is only a few months old and has vista, I will just have to wait and see. Have a very good day, and happy mylotting.
