Do you ever talk to yourself literally?

An sms message sent by my partner made me smile this morning. It was funny because he told me he's actually a bit worried this morning since he got on a bus and he noticed that the driver was mumbling (talking to himself) angrily as if he's fighting with someone. I then told him not to ever take a nap in that travel for a grumpy driver may be a symptom of stress thus having a huge probability of some accident or so. He replied he's watching the guy intently and is wearing his seatbelt and holding on to the handle just in case. It made me smile because sometimes I do talk to myself too. But not really scolding myself or something like that in public. Do you ever have the tendency to do so? Is this a sign of mental illness?

Hello laydee. I do talk to myself sometimes while walking. It so happened to me yesterday when I was talking to myself while walking through the school canteen. I did not notice that there were two girl students sitting there until I walked close to them. I felt so embarrassed when I saw them. I guess that they might have heard me, but not clearly because I did not speak loud enough for one to hear that clearly. Lol. By the way, I don't think that it is a sign of mental illness. Take care.

Hmmm.. It would certainly look funny for a bystander to see you talking though. Most especially if you were debating with yourself about something.

LOL I do this every time. I don't think it has anything to do with mental illness, it's just something some people do. Some people like to fart, and that's way worse. I usually talk to myself when I'm angry or really concentrated into something and then this something goes wrong and I start swering, fighting with myself. I'm a designer, so this happens mostly when I'm drawing. If I make a mistake, I call myself names LOL It's funny, but it's embarassing if there's other people around...

I can soooo relate! I am a writer and a crafter. Writing cannot go well if I don't read it aloud so I can hear it. Crafting alternately aggravates and pleases, usually eliciting an oral response. Maybe we're just alone in our own worlds too much!

I do have the tendency to talk to myself. That happens when I am too happy for a good day. People may think that is crazy or stress but I love to ride the emotion. I keep on repeating to myself that I love the situation a lot. Maybe sometimes I should stop being overemotional over the things. I would like if possible to stop talking to myself but I can't control it. I just love the thrill to talk to myself.More like a pep-talk ;)

We all talk to ourselves almost every time. But its just mentally and so no one hear us. If anyone would hear us talking mentally they would call us mad. When the thoughts go on an exceedingly alarming level some people tend to talk it out although not intentionally. Take sports people for example. They have to let go of frustration that is building up because of they making unforced errors while playing. They yell and even keep telling themselves to calm down. Most of them take their own names while talking and it looks as if they are talking to a different personality. I don't think its some kind of madness. But if you record it and then show it to that person they will most probably be surprised to see that thing.

This made me smile, because I catch myself doing this off and on. Especially if I am irritated. One day I forgot something important and had to turn around to go get it. While I was turning, I was saying, "Stupid, stupid, stupid!" out loud. A couple folks turned to watch me, and I realized I probably sounded like the village idiot! In my case, I think it is because I work alone a lot. Humans need to talk some, and if there is nobody else they will talk to themselves just to hear a voice. Also, I understand text better if I read it aloud, and part of my job is reading for research. So I am forever reading aloud. Answering your own questions on the text is a natural extension, and pretty soon you are real used to the sound of your own voice!

Hehehe.. that's creepy though. I guess humans indeed need other people to talk to. I could well remember a true-life story of a relative wherein she was alone and didn't have anyone to talk to, she started talking to her pets literally and asking them for advice on decisions. Creepy!
