Not just anti-spyware but a firewall installed between your PC and to the internet. I think most of the dsl router right now has firewall built in I prefer hardware firewall than the software cause doesn't add load to your pc.

Someone with an IP address can focus their attention on your connection, but, this is only as dangerous as you allow it to be. I mean, daily, millions of people are having their machines scanned for open ports, yours as well, so it's not like they needed to get your particular IP to scan you for vulnerabilities; only difference is that when someone knows a given IP is tied to a specific person, they may try a particular approach for a particular reason. Don't worry if someone has your IP, because the only way you'd be utterly safe would be unplugged from the Internet. Also, even if you are a focus of attention: Security. Router, Firewall, well configured ports, services without back doors or security breaches; get all of these and doesn't matter who comes around. People watch too many movies and believe that there are Elite Hackers who just come in and destroy everything and bypass everything. No, they have to follow computer logic like everyone else... if your computer has nothing that can be exploited, they can't latch onto you, period. Of course... if you have services with more holes than Swiss cheese, if you have trojans spawning back door ports, if your router has UPnP turned on and similar... well, you're pretty much done for if someone wants to take hold of your system. Also, internet side you can't just ... spoof your IP since it's something assigned by the ISP. You can disguise yourself when you are accessing sites, online services etcetera, but your actual IP will still be behind it and people can access that one directly.

Specially those technicians from isp who repair your pc they can get your IP very easy. So be careful even you have the latest anti-virus or anti-spy.
