What are your techniques for earning direct referrals?

Hi guys. Earning direct referrals seems to be hard as everyone thinks that bux sites are scam or they expect to earn a lot more money from the beginning. I created a blog and added it to a traffic exchange site, but I have only earned 1 direct referral. Some guy here mentioned that he created a splash page about Neobux on Easyhits4u and earns quite a bit of direct refs. What are your thoughts on this?
