Why do basketball players wears rubber shoes instead of leather shoes?

Don't laugh, I know this is a silly question. But this was ask by my friend over a drinking session two nights ago. In theory, leather shoes can be used like all other types of shoes but he is not contented with it. Thats why I ask, maybe you knows.

You must have had drunk one too many so your friend was asking this silly question. Well the best way to get the right answer to this question is for your friend to go and play basketball in a leather shoes. See how he will find that experience. Hehehe!

hi fulltank because leather shoe soles slid and slip'
on the floor and cause a lot of injuries also they tend
to scuff up the gym floor.no rubber soles are much better,
you do not mean shoes you mean soles,the uppers are not made of rubber at all, but the same material as all sports shoes,not leather as leather would not breathe as well for their feet.

rubber shoes are made for that. there are different types of rubber shoes according to the sports event u participate. it is designed for comfort, ease, rugged environment, etc. most of all, it is designed for safety. would u feel safe wearing leather shoes while playing badminton, perhaps? and...sports rules specifically disallow leather shoes for obvious reasons (even referees wear rubber shoes).

Because rubber shoes are much more comfortable to use. We cannot move comfortably if we wear rubber shoes while playing basketball.

I guess, rubber shoes is more appropriate when playing basketball as it is designed for running, brisk walking, and other movements used when playing basketball. =P I noticed that even non-basketball player wears rubber shoes, maybe because its comfortable to use compared to leather shoes.
