Hi friends, i want to set up a solar or wind power harnessing unit at home. As the power bills kept on increasing month after month, and with the global warming crisis going on, i want to set up an alternative energy power source to use it at home. This set up will be mainly for using the pc, fridge, and some few 40 watts light bulbs. I'll be grateful, if anyone can give me some advice on how to purchase the equipments, where to purchase it and what to purchase.

For pc, refrigerator and few 40 watts lights, the cost will be quite high. For alternative energy source, you are to have a small study about the place, where you are setting that. 1. how many months the area faces the sun amongst the day hours? if the cloudy part is more in total day hours, you are to plan in a mode, else in other mode. 2. for windmill part what is the general speed of breeze in your area? about wind speed you have one facility that it remains always, not like sunlight. but setting up of windmill is very costly. but if you can make it by some indegenious mode, that will be more economic. you may talk to some local engineering companies. solar energy units for running your electronic equipments, that you mentioned will not be economically viable. infact both the things, you told are costly and thereby they cannot really fight your agony of electric bills. but, still you have some means. are you planning this project at rural area? why dont you think on bio gas plant? a few number of families in your area together can go for setting it up with a less cost comparatively. only requirement is that you will need some cows. out of cowdung you will have to make this. by bio gas plant you can meet your cooking and lighting part. but for running pc and refrigerator, i think it is not going to be possible at ease. thank you.

Hi borhan, thank you for the response and the advice. I was also thinking that the cost may be quite high. About the solar unit, the area will be mostly getting around 4, 5 hours of sunlight. And about the bio gas plant, i live in a rather populated area and the setting up of such plant is impossible. Do you know any dealers in solar equipments, i think this may be the best alternative source for me. I live in india, will it be impossible to procure the needed equipments? And also, can the source be built under $500 dollars?
