Why do teachers give so many assignments over weekends?

I have noticed this on my daughters assignments. She have plenty of assignments to cope for the weekends. Almost all subjects have it. My wife ask me this one too. Aren't they humans and make our children's life miserable? Damn, I'm paying them to teach my daughter to learn, not to let my child learn on her own.

I don't think teachers are making student's life miserable. For me, those assignment over the weekends is one way of teaching your daughter too. Teacher tend to discuss topics on weekdays and give assignments over the weekends so when they come back to school in mondays, teacher will know what their students have learned from the previous discussions discussed.

Yup, your right about that! The school is for teachers and the house should be for parents. The children are already studying in school, their house should be a place of resting and enjoying what they want, not doing assignments and making them stressed out.

I don't know at which quantity that you can call "many", it may be "medium", or even "few" for someone else. The essentiel task is to make your children understand well the lesson. The teachers are teaching your daughters to work on her own. However, if you think it's too tough, you can assign this "torture" to the teaching staff at your daughters' school, right?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I use to get so angry when they would give my daughters so much homework over a weekend or the Christmas break. They can't enjoy their weekend or holiday with pressure to get homework or special reports done. Its like they are in school 5 days a week coming home each night with homework, isn't that enough. So they should give them a break on the weekend and holiday breaks.

yeah,i just remembered i had a lot of homework when i was a child on the weekend,i think it was because there exists huge stress on studying in china, not every child can go to college, college is prepared for good students.

yeah, i totally agree with you. It's not the same when kids study with teachers or study alone. But then again, the ratio is generally something like 26 kids to one teacher so i'm sure you can see how little time they get with any individual child. I think giving loads of homeswork for the weekend is a way to compensate as they can go through the corrections and so still help fix the mistakes the children make. But if you want better attention for your childs education, go for a tutor.

I think teachers want their pupils to learn and study their lessons during week ends instead of playing. I think finding your time teaching your child would be a good bonding for both of you. enjoy!
