Do you think your school education very useful?

I think my education from school serves very little function for me to find a decent job and earn a high salary. Instead, I learn more within shorter period of time from practice. Any work itself teaches you a lot. Who has used his book knowledge a lot in his actual work? I suppose very few people do. Then why do we have to waste time on useless programs? why our schools add some practical courses and cancel old, useless ones?

I feel that School education is the most important phase of any child as it sets up the child's life in the future. Also it gives a clear picture of what the child's interests are and what he would like to make his career.

In American schools, Math and English make the world go 'round. History should show us where we have been so we learn enough not to go back, Civics gives us a lesson in government. I DO agree that when kids go to college and take classes like Surfing 101, that is a total waste of time, money and energy all the way around. Although it's fun studying theater, for the most part it serves little purpose in getting a real job later on, since only a tiny percentage of these folks go on into acting, producing, etc. But a primary reason for all those school years is to teach you to think, think, think inside the box and, if taught properly, outside it, too. Those able to really think outside the box are the fabulous inventors and future millionaires. The rest of us work for them.

Yup, its very useful to me. I landed a good job because of it. And the best part of it, my job is aligned to what I have finished in college. Many people do not have these luck as many of them ended up in with the wrong job or not the job where they can apply their studies and expertise. I have many friends who are like this and often says that their college degree is useless on their current jobs. they cannot apply what they have learned at school as it is very different. Yes, the real world teaches us a lot. These includes the real job we are into. Every now and then, we learn new things that would keep up with the ever changing world. In computer for example, I have to learn some computer programs to keep me updated with my work. I have to enroll myself to short courses and to self-study just to be on the right track.

I am currently attending a university to obtain a degree in social work. This learning experience that I am currently experiencing will definatly be useful. I will personally advocate for the needs of everyone that is experiencing any type of discrimination or a social injustice. I will do my best from the education I am receiving to put it to use for those that need my services.

I think in some ways you are right. When we are young we believe that school serves no purpose to us and that is why we do not think it is very important. But let me tell you, I am a senior now in High School and It, to me, obviously is very important. I realize that I have to get out there and do good to show the world that I am not a fool and I can handle a real job such as being a teacher or learning about computer science.

Honestly, from my present job as of the moment, my degree in Statistics is not useful enough with the current position that I am handling. I am actually working in a business processing outsourcing company tasked in analyzing companys' financial statements. So definitely, with the current position that I have, my degree is of no use to it. I am actually dreaming of having taken up a degree in the field of Information Technology, because in that way, I think I can be more productive and I can earn more for a living...

i agree that school education is important but it does not necessarily guarantee you of having a high paying job or a job related to what you have studied. but it can help you find a better job than those who have lower educational attainment.

I just don't think schools actually care. about edcuation the way they should. In my opinion its all about the numbers. I don't need to remind you how schools cram standardized testing down throats just so they can say because of our scores our school ranked better then another so we should get more money. In a way schools compete for money, the schools with the better standarized test scores are going to get it. As for my school it was about trying to hide the fact the students were blind and or deaf, but they were "normal" productive members of society. Geeze.... I learned more figureing things out then I ever did hitting the books.

Hi magic9, the first impression about eduction when I got a job after graduation, as same as you, the school education is crap. I couldn't find a job just count on stuffs learned in school, and had to spend more time to learn the sills and knowledge to fit the work, hence I doubted what's the value of school time. As far as I consider, there are many categories of education level, for instance, elementary education, application education and research education. We may get a better situation if we get elementary education, and you will find out most the functions learned in elementary school are useful, example language, math, simple physical knowledge. In the next if I want to be a worker, I should accept the application education, e.g. accounting, welder, hotel servant. In high level, like invent light, launch rockets and so on, to get a research education is necessary. Therefor, in my mind, different education give us different education base on our knowledge structure, and rely on our ambitious. If some educations fit our working, it's good, if isn't it's not good.

Hello, Actually your right or wrong i dont know its related that what your learning in schools actually i am from India and here we as per in school they teach us wat we are need in collage and in collage they teach us how to go for graduation like Engineering or B.com (banking) like this which is easier to search job through your degree(Graduated). So i think here school is very important in education becaz your future get decided through school here in India. You are right work teaches a lot but think about engineering there u have to take some education for doing job u cant learn via doing job......and yes for anything u need basic which u will learn in schools. Example:- 1+1 =2 u learn the function like +,-,/,* in school not in job. that's the reason u need atleast basic education from school therefore its important..........Hope your clear with my stuff..........Regards,
