I'd go to B&H.com and look through their used section, A lot of photographers are using Canon digital SLR's. I have found several good deals on ebay, try to get one with the lense included, and maybe a battery or memory card too. Look for digital slr, you can find camera's under $400 including the lense if you look. Amazon has a few, but compared to ebay they don't have the same choices etc, you might find a good deal if you watch carefully. Sometimes looking through craigslist doesn't hurt either, there's no shipping and handling to pay.

I was looking for a camera awhile back and a friend of mine found a pretty decent one in that price range on amazon. I was looking and found some around that on ebay too. Depending how soon you are looking for one you could keep an eye out for sales. You probably could pick up a good one on black friday or something.

if you want to try to get a good camera cheap you could try swoopo but its a little hard to win on those auctions.People have gotten professional cameras worth $10000 for $3. If you dont want to try your luck suggest doing some research and checking on amazon or ebay
