My Heart is still just pounding in my chest, I took a late afternoon nap, Yeah I laid down around 4:00 p.m. here and I guess I just "died", didn't hear the phone ring TWICE!!! I get up and see I have messages and both are from my FATHER....UH OH!!! First message is him "panting into the phone" that he has fallen and can't get up! Second message is .....Well I finally got up but he still wanted me to come out to the farm.... OH MY FFFF________'IN GGGAAAWWDDDDD!!!!!!! I call him back shaking like a leaf and he answers the phone and said Yeah I fell right here at the counter he sits in this stupid computer chair he bought to replace the big bar stool chair he's had there for MANY MANY YEARS....the computer chair sits on a rug but Yes it still rolls....I've told him repeatedly to BE CAREFUL THERE!!!! and well after several months IT HAPPENED!! The poor man flips his chair over, he can't get up from the ground when he falls he has to have something to brace himself up on and then physically force his self up but with his aging old body he just can't do it you know? I just can't believe it! I slept right through it all.... ##$$##@!@@#$$##!!!!! Even if I had gotten out to the farm I myself would have had to call 911... I can't lift my Father him he is a 250+ lb. man ( mega dead weight), I said WHY didn't you call 911 when you finally had gotten to the phone??? I DON'T KNOW????????????????????????????? AARRGGHHHH!!!! I didn't want to bother anybody....The Fire Fighter's would have been the ones to respond to that phone call...that's what they are there for you know? EMERGENCIES!!!!!!! He was headed off to bed he said he wasn't hurt anywhere, that he knows of at this point in time I guess?? I don't know... Tomorrow some mega changes have GOT to be made... first one on my end is TO REPLACE THIS PIECE OF CRAP PHONE I HAVE....aka DEAD PHONE stupid handheld unit has been acting up for awhile now, its time I throw it out; had to hook up my OLD PHONE, you know the kind that is NOT hand held...no batteries on them just a short line cord..BUT IT WORKS!!! oH GOOD GRIEF!! I'm just so "rattled here"... Things have just GOT to change.....I'm so glad to have this place where I can come rant and talk and discuss things... Yep! so now that I finally get around taking the silly age test see previous discussion from today; http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2228330.aspx Now I have to add another 10 years++ to it....OH GOOD GRIEF!!!!! "BREATHE JAN BREATHE"......

oh my.. i wouldn't know what to do had that happened to me. especially as my father lives on a different island and i just won't be able to get there asap. and like your father, he is also living alone. really hope we'd convince him to move in with us soon.

hi dreamweaverjan, oh no! I hope your dad is okay and doing really well. Is he alone at home? or did he has someone who guides him everyday? You know what, I am really scared and usually rattled in every emergency situations. I still live with my dad's house and I support his needs and all. I have my siblings in the same subdivision (we are like neighbors, just few blocks away) so, I could get some help anytime. There was this incident when my dad suffered some difficulty in breathing because of his asthma and I was at work, my sister and brother assisted him to the hospital. I was so worried and I cried at work, because I can't rush to where he was. Thinking of the possible things that may happen freaked me out. I think you are a great daughter! you cared for him so much...it shows. I hope for the best to your family especially with your dad. Happy Lotting!

I am glad it all turned out well. This is so strange, but I am a member of bzzagent and they are having a campaign to try Lifeline. I did not join, but kind of sounds like what he needs. I hope you get calmed down soon.

Calm Down. Your father says he is okay. Lets hope he is. He probably should have gone to the hospital for a check up. How old is he? Falls are so common in eldely people., and can be very serious. Make it replace this unsafe chair. I know you are ghoing to sort out your phone siutation. Does your father qualify for one of those emergency alerts systems? One is a little alarm he can carry around, and activate if something happens, and there will be a response. In my city, the Red Cross have a ring system, where every person on their regioster is rung everyu day at a specidic time. If there is no reply, the police or ambulance come. My 89 year old aunty is registered for that.

Honestly, some times you just want to SCREAM!!! I normally sleep with the phone in bed with me, the cell phone that is. The other roommate sleeps with the extra phone in her room, but she has the ringer off. If I know everyone's asleep, I'll drag my butt outta bed to get the main phone, otherwise, I let someone else answer it. If I think someone will be calling, I'll actually take it to bed with me. The only phone we have on a line is the "master" phone of our cordless ones - and it also has an answering machine on it too. In part because all our other wired lines have been ruined by the cats - HOW the cats managed to ruin these things behind furniture will always be a mystery to me!

Hi dreamweaverjan,I sat here reading your story and my own heart kind of paused. I am so glad that it all ended well!! Don't get rid of that old cord phone or you will regret it. I have one that I swear is an antique but I'll tell you what....when we lose power, that thing will still work where the cordless one won't! It has come in handy on more than one occasion! you are so right....this is a great place to vent! Now I'm going to have to go and see what your "silly age test" is all about. Apparently I missed that one.

This is a discussion that is about five days old. Have you got any updates? I feel for you. Does your dad have any ill effects, bruises, broken bones? Take care Jan.

dreamweaverjan. hi wow you were so scared you forgot that you could have called 911 yourself and given them your father's address and directions to get there as you knew you could not pick up that heavy a weight.see when we get scared like that I think our brain synapses all seem to just freeze. I see what you mean by rolling computer chairs. I am 83 and was sitting here on this rolling chair. I had a mishap from my stomach flu and had to change my panties. No big deal? uh yes it was as I got the leg hole over my shoe with the big brace on it and was about to put my good leg into the other hole and my chair rolled backwards. If I had not grabbed hold of the sides of the chair I would have fallen off onto the floor.lol. So I can see just what happened to your poor dad. He was probably too stressed out too to think logically I must call 911. oh that darned stress and being scared it just really addles our brains. In your dads case I would get him on one of those alarm systems that is keyed into a place where they could send help if he falls again.Sometimes older people have insurance that will cover this device, and is well worth looking into.

Phew! Yeah, when you're elderly it's not such a good idea to be sitting i a moveable chair. You need something stationary. I'm so glad to know that your dad is ok. I have a couple of cordless phones myself. For the most part I really like them. The only thing I don't like about them is that they have no personality. Years ago I bought a phone that was shaped like an artist's palette. It was so clever and people got a charge out of it when they saw it. I miss that phone. I bought it at Radio Shack. I wonder if they still carry the model............? Hmmmmmm.......... Have a great day, Jan. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I know you must have felt horrible! I hope he is alright. My grandfather falls alot now. It's horrible because it usually takes a little to know if you break something bad. He broke a bone in his back and the doctor had to glue it together, but it took my grandad a good couple of hours to even know he was in pain. When the pain hit though, it was agonizing. I don't want to scare you, but just call him to make sure he keeps a phone or something nearby.

I think you are still a bit lucky. if that had happened to me, I would definitely consider it more of a relief to not have known about what happened to him the very moment it happened. i would have been so freaked out (and maybe fall and bang my head out of panic). I dont really know how to act in such situations so it would surely be a relief to know it later on after he has finally recovered and is already fine. I think I should start learning how to react on such situations and start practicing. At least I should know who to call to ask what to do because I wouldnt know what to do for sure..lol...
