How easy is it for you to resist temptation?

How easy is it for you to resist temptation? For some people it's incredibly hard, but for others it's far easier. For example, if you were on a diet, would it be easy for you to resist certain foods that you loved? Or, if your boss was away and you knew you could sneak in an extra 20 minutes of your lunch break without getting caught, would you? Do you set up rewards or goals? I just started exercising again and have decided that perhaps 2 days a week I am going to eat whatever I want, within reason, and two days each week I will also work out a few minutes longer to make up for it, in a way. I am not too heavy, just want to tone up, and my metabolism has always been pretty decent, so I am okay doing this. I just need to exercise a slightly more and keep a closer eye on what I eat. My boyfriend buys a bunch of junk food and I always try to buy healthier foods instead. He buys chips, candies like Reese's pieces that are so delicious..., a bunch of cheesy products, and the like, but I am trying to cut back and sometimes it's hard to resist. I am really going to push myself to succeed because i want to be nice and toned like I used to be and am hoping to lose about 20 pounds by my anniversary, which is April 25. Please wish me luck and tell me about some of your goals. I particularly want to know if it's easy or very difficult for you to resist temptations, any kinds of temptations!

Hi Bethany. For me, it depends on the temptation. In matters of work, I've never gone against the rules, even when the boss was away, but now I am my own boss, and in some ways, I have to be even more diligent lol. As for exercise, it has always helped to choose something I truly enjoy doing, or space it in smaller increments throughout a day. Food temptations: I eat what I want, but slowly and in moderate portions. Eating it slowly makes me enjoy it more and feel satisfied with much less. But like you, I've always picked a day or two to eat as I wish, which helps me not feel deprived and cave in to temptation the rest of the time. For something totally forbidden, it is best for me to keep it out of the house, or when I'm trying to cut back on expenses, NOT to go into clothing and jewelry stores and such. I stick to necessities and leave it at that. Best of luck to you! Karen

Thanks for the input. For me, I had a problem overspending with my credit cards so I cut up a few of them... I have asked my boyfriend to stop buying so much junk, but he won't, so I have to fight the urge to sit around and snack all the time on those easily accessible delights!!

I find it pretty easy to resist temptation. Every time I make a decision I stick to it and no one can persuade or convince me to change my mind. Before I ever decide on something, I think about the outcomes. Is it going to benefit me or are there going to be consequences? This is just one of the questions I ask myself. I think this is a characteristic I got from my dad because he can control his temptations with ease.

i don't think its easy in anyway, though it will be ideal to avoid temptation and avoid the recklessness that comes with it , so i try as much as possible to avoid the ones i can avoid but i can't do beyond my power especially when the temptation is getting too much for me

Ah, you touch the subject on everyone mind. By the way Good Luck, the power is within you. Temptation - the root of all evil. Thanks Adam and Eve. Usually for me temptation is a very thought out choice. Like you have already been tempted by the fact that your only going to work out twice a week and the other days eat the way you want. You already have given in to temptation. I temptation lately is in book stores - It hard for me to go into a book store and not purchase. The whole time in the book store I have to tell my self not to purchase - don't do it, etc.. When I leave without an item I feel bad but it passes and I know that I 20 to 50 dollars richer. For you - your temptation is weight, food. So when you go to grab the bag of food that hasn't grow from the ground or had four legs what do you tell your self. You should be asking yourself - I'm I eating this because I need to or am I eating this because I want to. Again - remember a want and a need are too different things. The trick with temptation is training your brain to listen to itself.

It really depends what that particular temptation is. I think I am kind of a sucker when it comes to temptation, and it is usually hard for me to resists. but if it is for the better not to do something I try not to do it!.

It IS Hard to resist temptations in my case, cuz I have philosophy that if there was a temptation, it had to be part of your desire. Nothing is wrong about desire, but you should always think what is the best option for you at that time and never forget to be considerate towards others. It's a foolish thing to do to always deny your desire. Admit it, and choose what is best for just for that time and finally, consider about the consequences it might bring. For diet, personally I don't give too much care about it, but luckily for me, I have a body that is always hunger for exercise (especially weight exercise) and good metabolism. Eat, train hard, and enjoy your life, that's it!

When it comes to sweets it is really hard because I got a mean sweet tooth. I am overweight and trying my best to cut back sweets and sugary drinks. I have started working back out myself cause physically it hurts when I run and my clothes are getting too tight and majority are in size XL! My husband teased me when we were at McDonald's because he knows at a certain time of each month, the sweets monster comes around lol. So I was trying hard not to get an apple pie because I had a piece of cake at home and had already ate a chicken sandwich with a medium fry. So he goaded me with it and told me, ok since apple pies are 2 for a $1 I guess I get them myself. I figured I don't go to McDonald's that often and next week I am hunkering down. But sweets, oh I get really cranky if I don't get some even a little sweet. But I am getting around it though. I am switching out the high sugar sweets I love so much and getting more things like trail mix, fruit, jello etc to curb it. Maybe once in a while, I will get something high sugary like a slice of pecan pie

I wish you luck on your endeavors. I think it is always easier to resist temptations when you have a goal and a plan. Its very easy to dive right in when you can't see the future/consequences of your actions. I think that is why so many people participate in organized religion. It helps keep them focused so that they don't forget why they are avoiding temptation in the first place.

Hello my friend Bethany1202 Ji, Well, it is like living under adverse situations. I wish to bring-out some examples. We very well know that there are poisonous snakes whirl around sandlewood, they get coolness and sweat smell, but sandlewodd never takes poson from snakes. In our cast 'FASTS' probably were introduced to know about suchthings.Only strong willperson cando that. Inour side there is a fast on particular day, when one should not open mouth. Fasts are always restrictions. Let mebring outsomething whichwill strenthen to make your living better and fight against all odds. here are they :- "SATSANG (a) ”If you can balance /stable your mind, when people around you are in un-balanced , and at the same time blaming you”. (NO-reaction) (b) “If you have belief on yourself, when others have doubt and at the same time, you strongly oppose their belief of their doubt” (c) “If you can wait for Good/Bright days without loosing patience/getting disheartened of waiting”. (d) “Everyone around you is deceiving you , whereas you are not in any way.” (e) “ Every body hates you and you do not, at the same time, you ARE not proud to be ‘good’ and ‘wise’. (f) “ If you Can dream, but do not allow them to overpower you, and you Can ‘think’ but at the same time, do not plunge into dreams of ‘thinking”. (g) “If you can welcome ‘gains’ and ‘defeat’ OR ‘profit’ & ‘loss’ with open hearts and they do not unbalance your mind”. (h) “If you can accept your own words in twisted/mutilated /distorted form, happily by ‘fools’ and they do not involve you in their bad plans”. (i)“ If you Can bear/tolerate the ‘gains’ accomplished by you ‘raise to ashes’ , for which you took whole life to build, and at the same time you can once again order your tired hands to restart making”. (J) “ If you can take one chance to reduce your gains in your life, ‘loose’ or ‘gain’ (like a great gambler) (k)“If you can, after loosing every bit in your life, get ready fresh to obtain the same with total energy from all corners of your body and mind, without uttering a single word even”. (l)“ If you Can compel your heart, mind and limbs, when they are so tired and refuse to accept any thing, except that your ‘belief’ and ‘desire’ to order them that they have to march forward and not falling back”. (m) “ If you can roam in crowds, but do not allow your ‘thoughts’ and ’abilities’ to wander stray, and you live with emperor, but do not neglect common man “. (n) “ If you are unharmed by people loving you and people hating you”. (o)“ If you Can respect everybody within the limits, but at the same time nobody”. (p)“ IF YOU CAN REMEMBER THE UN-EXCUSED MOMENT/SECOND (time) OF YOUR LIFE, AND EXPLAIN THE REASON FOR THE SAME”. Then, the whole world belongs to you only and every thing that exists on this, at the same time you fall under the category of ‘ACTUAL HUMAN BEING ’, which is greatest achievement in the life than any thing else”." May God bless You and have a great time.

The only temptation I do face is junk food.I try not to eat it,because it'll make me gain weight, but what really gets me is when I have a sugar craving, then I can't resist.I hope you do well, for me I have to not eat any sugar for a week then the sugar craving goes away. You'll probably get used to it.Good luck to you!

My biggest problem at the moment is to give less time to myLot. I get tempted to be here all the time leaving aside my other pursuits. I have to make a determined effort to change this pattern as I have no other go!

for me i think it is quite easy for me to resist temptation but i guess it all depends on what i am resisting the temptation of. Like now, i would really like a cup of coffee but i can resist something like that fairly easily. I guess for food it is much harder e.g. fast food and take aways are much harder to resist :D

On the little things like whether I should have another cup of coffee, another piece of chocolate or something, I am lousy at resisting temptation, but when it comes to big things that could threaten my life or my relationship, I have no problem resisting at all.

I have a hard time resisting temptations when it comes to food. I just realized in October I am addicted to food. I used it for every emotion and couldn't stop at just one. Since then I have found that the things that trigger my binges is sugar and flour prodcuts so I stopped them all together. It has not been easy. At first I even got the shakes. Now, 3 months later I have found that I don't really need them and actually enjoy cooking foods that are good for me. I don't feel deprived because I can eat anything I want as long as it doesn't contain those items. I don't over eat and I have found I actually like things I never thought I would before. I have lost 36 pounds since October and have started having the energy to excercise. It is a wonderful feeling to have kicked the habit and not felt like the temptations have me defeated. I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss. Keep up the good work!!
