Lost Words...Unfinished Sentence...Fill in the Blanks

We all respond to discussions and sometimes start our own discussions. There are times we get to think of so many things that we want to say and the words kept entering your head so fast but somehow you cannot write all of it at the same time. I've seen lots of discussions and response that had some words omitted accidentally upon posting. For example you want to say "I want to give you a warm hug" but you ended up typing "I want to give warm hug" there is a big chance of misunderstanding but still I often see it and some are not responsible enough to correct their statements or mistake. I admire those people who have a habit of reviewing what they have written before posting, that's the sole purpose of the preview button, but I can definitely understand why people don't. To be honest I don't practice it, reviewing my response or discussion before posting it. Well it will be good if somehow if this people, like me, get it to be organized. They say how you write somehow reflects a part of your personality. I believe somehow it's true. So how do you try to understand this if you encounter something like this in the heat of the discussion? Context clue? or you just ask them what they really mean? "Good to you all lotters out there" "Please observe silence library" "Are happy with him" (I address people who have a good handle of their English in general)

I often miss out. I just hope that others understand because I often don't see my mistakes until posted. I once made a terrific blunder and left the 'L' out of 'public' I realised as soon as I had posted and I tried to rectify my mistake with a comment directly underneath but the damage was done I type from two different computers and one is fast and one is slow and that doesn't help. If I see something that I think has something missing I usually ask... with a smilie too

Wow that was one hot mistake you've done Miss D I think people would have another idea about you if you commit that same mistake frequently That's thoughtful of you to ask if there is something you see off in their statements. Me, I usually search for context clues first then I answer as to how I understand it at first then in my last sentence I would ask if I understand or answered it correctly

Well different people already have different ideas about me but that one certainly did swing them in a direction they had never been before I try and be careful but sometimes I am just in too much of a hurry

Don't worry I think no matter what direction they view you at they will still think of you as that smart friendly lady with a golden heart...Ooops I mean golden head

My hand moves faster than my head therefore I often lose control in the use of words to be spoken directly from my mouth, and fortunately I use the good words. Although I trained myself to write neatly in English, I still can not do it perfectly and it was my lack of writing. There are some words that are likely lost, probably because I was pressing the other. Many times I thought and thought but once I forgot to write what I want to say.

I'm on the opposite, my head is faster than my hands. Sometimes I'm writing my first sentence and my head is thinking of the second one so I ended up combining the two sentence into one, making a sentence with no sense at all. There are also times I forgot what to write to because I think my head exploded with ideas before I even start writing

hi hexeduser22 do you not realize that a lot of us are careful and edit and yet we do miss a word misspelled or a word missing, you are branding us all as illiterate buffoons and that's so not true. I have put in a comment to my response when I have missed something on editing telling where and what my error was. I have firefox browser with spelling checker and do watch my discussions as carefully as possible. But need I remind you we are not doing discussions to be graded by our English Professor but to communicate with fellow mylotters. we are supposed to be having fun and enjoying mylot. So I do not know how my personality is projected and right now I do not give a flying fig either. I have a BA in English which I received at age 59 and now I am 83, so what, I can still make an error like anyone else. I think most of us are responsible enough but again I remind you that others are here using English as a second language and we are told by the Admins to be gentle and not criticize them at all as they are really trying to learn. My rant for today.

hi he he its Mrs. by the way, I am a widow now for a long time. what really gets me is when a person in less than say four or five hours makes fifteen to twenty discussions, eachone getting less and less interesting and more hard to respond to. taking up page after page,t hen when you respond never commenting back, that seems rude to me. after all we went to the trouble of responding so we are due some comments. besides comments pay you quite well when you make them to the responses on your discussions.

Oh you got me all wrong Miss Hatley, I'm not criticizing anyone in any way. The admiration for people reviewing their post is a plus factor and not meant to insult anyone or even myself for that matter. No matter how careful we are we still do mistakes and no matter how many times we review our post there are still that we often overlooked. I admire you for correcting your work immediately by adding comments and noting where you made an error, I do that too, but we cannot ignore the fact that there are people not minding if their post has some noted errors and just leave after posting and not entertain clarifications. I started this discussion keeping in mind that not all are great English speakers that is why I made a statement in a parenthesis in the last part of my discussion. So what if you make mistakes it doesn't really matter here just as long as we are having fun and enjoying communicating, I totally agree with you on this one. I appreciate and understand where your going and if you feel to rant more then feel free to do so. If some people continue to post just for the sake of it and not really interested in learning then we would have lots and lots of misunderstandings going on. How can we enjoy mylot if there are people clearly not interested on making us understand. I search for context clues if ever I encounter such errors and I ask the one who posted the response if I'm right or wrong. That's what I do if I want to reach out and learn I hope everything is clear now Miss Hatley, I never intended to offend you in anyway. If there is something in what I posted that alarmed you, can you kindly point that to me so I could explain myself Thank you

Yes there are people like that, I mean what motivates them to make so many discussions in a day then never even care about how the discussion would push through or anything. I guess we just have to accept that there are people like them everywhere.

I do read through my responses before posting but, I will not be applying for a job as a proof-reader anytime soon because some of those slips and errors I make whilst my head is racing ahead of my hands, still get through. I think the way I write does reflect my personality.... disorganised, spontaneous... There are times when missing out a word here and there makes no difference to the understanding but sometimes it can change the meaning completely. (I've read through this 5 times now)

Yes it could be a major source of misunderstanding, accidentally missing out a word. I appreciate you reviewing your post before submitting I just cannot practice it that way. I submit my post then review it, I don't know but that's how I do it. If there is a noticeable error afterwards I add a comment

hello hexe, This happens to me several times, and, often times i ended up with follow up comment to my own comment stating *correction pls* and typing the sentence where i done type error. I don't have the habit of reviewing my response before posting, that is why error were posted before i realize about it. But,there are times that,i do review my response before posting it. Have a good day always

It seems to me that we have the same habit in doing our responses and comments

this is so true.. sometimes even if i try to review my composition before posting, i still fail to notice missed out words. so the result, laugh at myself! it's my only way out to such errors. the bad thing about this is when the context would entirely change the meaning of what you really want to convey.

Yes it's a b!tch when missing some words and then when you read it you realized it gives a whole new meaning to what you actually intended to say or write. I laughed at myself to and sincerely apologize to the one I'm replying to

I am one of those people who preview my response before i post it... :) I do feel that it is my responsibility to give my best response whenever i need to. I just love what i do here in mylot.. it makes me really express myself the way i want to express "ME". That's why I agree that our personality really is reflected on how we handle things.. even just a simple review of our posts ehehe!! Unfinished sentences, lost words, and blackout happens when we are interrupted by someone in the middle of our responses. Its normal... Our brain is not that perfect. Just for example right now, while i am writing this response,i feel something in my eye like its thumping inside.. i lost my words... my thoughts.... my response :) Gosh! hope to be a lotter always... cyah!
