I used to play guitar to relieve stress but there's no music left in me. My guitars just sit around looking sad, don't even call to me anymore. I don't really have a hobby anymore but I know I should have one. I've seen some cards like what you're describing and they're really beautiful!

You should have alook around on the internet under hobbies as that way you may find something that catches your eye.I think that there are also alot of hobbies out there that also cost alot of money as the things that you need to buy cost soo much money as well. One of my friends said that her hobby is face book and playing all those games on there as that do not cost her anything to do that all the time.

Hatley, the music left when my husband did. He broke my heart and although it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me, the music is gone. Perhaps it will come back some day.

Do you or have you ever thought of selling your cards? I love giving different kinds of cards not normally found in stores. I don't know of any one making them for sale but I buy mine at Costco, they weren't very expensive and yet Oh So different, I have got many compliments.

I love the unique look of handcrafted cards. I'd like to take time to learn one of these days. My great hobby/business/stress reliever is crochet. I'm curious. What becomes of the paper that has been pricked? Do you cut out the pricked sections and they become like appliques? I have some friends who get together and make cards. They're into stamping. One friend was telling me that making one card can take up to 4 hours.

So it's good for the look of the card and good for relaxing you, too! Do you sell the cards or keep them for giving to friends and family?
@jugsjugs (12967)

The paper that has been pricked is placed as a back ground paper and then there is a picture put in the centre of the card so that you can see all the detailed pricking around it.The pricking on the paper stands out as much as the centre piece. The cards look like a lot of detail is on them as well as there has been alot of time and thought that has gone into them.Depends on how much detail you want on a card to how long it takes to make them.I used to do alot of stamping on the cards, but i prefer to do paper pricking as i find that a great stress relief.

I sell them to friends as well as my family and i also always have cards for the childrens friends as well which is really nice and handy.I never have to worry about never having a card as i can always make one if there is not one made already.I also put peoples names on them so they are a good card for anyone as well as any occassion.

hi jugjugs that sounds rather neat. Is that something that a person without much artistic talent could do? I mean I cannot mylot all the time, and I need a hobby that would let me be creative. I do do writing which helps me alleviate stress to, but always wanted some sort of hobby that actually made something useful and pretty. I do have some artistic ideas but have never tried making cards. tell me more please. thanks.

Hi,Hatley.I have been making cards for along time now and i have found it very easy to put a card together without a clue of what to use and where to begin with was easy.I am no artist and i never done much of anything like the art side of things when i went to school, but i love making cards as well as selling them to people. The cards that i make must be ok as the people who buy them keep coming back for more.It is best to shop around on the internet for cheap blank card as well as all the other bits and bobs that you need to make a card.I have an ornare template that i use as well as a pricking mat and a pricking pen that i use to do all the paper pricking as that way there are no mistakes made.I also put decoupage on the fronts of the cards as well and these are also cheap to buy as well as you can make a few cards out of the one sheet.I would recommend this to anyone as this is great and there are even people out there that suffer with their hands that also do card making as well.

I think that would drive me nuts to pick at paper---- Ah, usually when winter is here I do embroidry or fabric painting. Mostly since the addition of my computer I don't do anything but clean a little and stay on line. Stess? always.

Having 6 children and some of them do not sleep etc means that i do not get much of the me time i would like to have so pricking paper helps as this relives the stress of the day.I think that i tend to do these things when the children are in bed as that is the only time i get.I also spend alot of time cleaning the house as welkl as come on the pc which also helps with the stress.

Six kids? it's a wonder you are not pricking paper in a mental institution! But, have to hand it to you, you must do one heck of a job to cope with all you do. hang in there.

I used to in school, but I don't anymore. Normally I try to do other things to decompress. When I used to do it in school it was always a disaster. I did find doing the projects fun, but my teachers quickly learned that I'm a literal glitter magnet. Somehow I ended up covered in more glitter then I even attempted to use on projects. I now know glitter is evil.

The only time when i get stressed out is when i start to do my cards and have only just got started up and then someone wants me to stop as well as if i get all my craft things out and then the children start playing up.I like to be relaxed whilst doing them other wise there is no point in doing them to destress. An hour a week of doing my cards is great as that is the time for me.

I don't do crafts, but if making slumbook is included as crafts I certainly enjoy doing it. I love cutting papers, I love decorating and I love pictures. I love to cut words and I love different coloring materials. It relieves stress, much more when you see the final outcome. I am not talented, but i try my best to make my slumbook really look good and creative.

That sounds a great hobby is it like or simular to doing scrap booking as in you decorate the pages where the photos are? A friend of mine do the scrap books and they are really great as well as she gives the scrap books to friends as gifts as well as make a few for their relations.I think it is great if you can find a hobby that you can enjoy.

Hiya jugs, Stencilling items are not my cup of tea but it is worthy of admiration to have so much patience. I love Cards but not making them not good at that at all. Taking Photos is more in my line and I take them well just about. I can copy though as I´ve already said somewhere else. I usually copy Cartoon Characters I like doing that it´s really relaxing for me when I get round to it of course another stress reliever it to write and write but my own style of writing usually I open Notepad and away I go. It´s good for stress and stress is related to that affliction my Husband worked so many hours in a Day that he had to give it up in the finish as it was way too much for him he had that skin condition too but when he stopped working so hard it just vanished.

I think that by making the cards that i do this has helped alot to keep my skin the same rather than it getting worse.I am no good at drawing picture or copying any pictures so i do not even try todo that.I rarely write only on here.I have alot of friends that make cards and we often chat about the latest designs.Even one of my daughters make cards as well as in the past she has helped me.

Hiya jugs, A great Hobby but if you can make money out of selling the Cards or stencilling other things that would be an extra bit of pocket money. When I copy Cartoons I usually do Batman, Flintstones, The Prisoner, Popeye and others I enjoy that but I don´t take it seriously either as I can´t find the time or space yet for that particular thing.

H Jugs, Since i was a kid my mom taught me to do crochet. i develop the passion for tis craft since then. i started from making center tables, doilies, headbands until it became a hobby tome. i helped my mom in making bedspread and blouses. now, crochet is a productive hobby for me. my mom, my sister and i make this as a business. we do made to order crochet dresses, blouses, skirts, etc. now our market is not only in the philippines but we also export our crafts in the US and Qatar. It's not only a productive hobby where we earn money but it does relieves me from stress.

I can not crochet to a pattern, but i did used to crochet the blankets when i was alot younger as a hobby with a friend as well as with my mum and nan. When i had my first child i did crochet a blanket for her and then i made another blanket for a cat i had as well.I do think that it helps to relieve the stress.I then went on to do knitting and now i have found a hobby that i really enjoy as well as there are lots of other things that can be intoduced into card making.

i am so good with patterns too. i explore and make my own designs. i have a signature design that can be seen in all my crafts. that's a good alternative--card making. i used to do it before. i made cards out of recycled art papers, felt papers, color, etc. now there's a lot that you can choose from to make a unique personalize card. goodluck. it a therapeutic hobby and can be productive too!

I do a lot of needlepoint and crosstitch. I don't really have a lot of stress, but it is relaxing. I also read a lot. My hands are always cold, and it seems to keep them warmer as they are in motion all the time. A friend of mine makes a lot of cards. I never heard from her much till she started making them, now I hear from her all the time.

I have found that doing the cards i am alot better as in temper wise as well as i seem alot more chilled out.I am trying to replace all the cards that i have sold as that way i still know how much craft stuff i have as well as then i can go out and buy more.I find there are alot of my friends that now make cards as well and we always have a good laugh at all the mistakes we have made as well so in a way this has given us alll something to talk about other than the childrten as well as the partners.

I do think crafts and hobbies really do relieve stress. For me, it has a lot to do with the fact that this is something I can control and I can complete! Whenever I complete a new scrapbook page (my main hobby), I'll feel like I accomplished something and completed something. And then I feel less stressed about whatever else was going on :) Maybe crafts are just a good way to get your mind off of lives everyday stresses.

I make many things, dream catchers, I sew, I make what is called dough art, and sculpt with a modeling clay, I also love to paint things, and refurbish antiques as well as other furniture and things. I make necklaces and bracelets. My goodness, I do many many things.

I listen to music or read. I also play guitar, I hardly ever start something that takes a while because I'll have to be stressed to pick it up again and that's no way to look at an art or craft if you ask me.
