I am wondering what you all think of job interviews. I would like to improve the job interview process and make it easier and less stressful for the person being interviewed. Do you have any suggestions on how to do this or when you go to an interview what makes you the most nervous? I want to find a way to conduct interviews to make the person being interviewed comfortable and relaxed since it is an interview process. I don't want someone to feel like the are being questioned by the police I want the to be relaxed and enjoy their self while being interviewed.

I think one thing that helps the person put at ease is smile to them..a nice smile. Doesn't have to be a wide ear to ear smile. Also when the person is having a little hard time TRY to smile at them again. It gives the person a little re-assurance that he/she needs at that time. Don't give them the look like .."boy..you are REALLY messing up" :(

I have fun when I give interviews. If I see they are very nervous I will try to make jokes to help them relax. I had one person so nervous they were getting sick to their stomach so we did a different kind of interview. I took out a coin and if it landed on heads they asked me a question and if it landed on tails I asked them a question. We both had fun doing the interview this way and even know they are only a seasonal employee at the present time we both relate to each other to this day.

When doing an interview I want the person being interviewed to be as comfortable as possible. I knew how I felt when I went thru interviews and it felt like I was being interrogated. What I seen was wrong in interviews as well as talking to people and asking them what was wrong and what would make an interview smoother I am trying to implement and try.

Boy...I never I heard of such informal interviews. Gee..you are really an easy going recruiter :( Do you play board games too? Maybe to help them relax you can start by playing chinese checkers with them..so they don't have to talk that much, you know...you need silence to concentrate. THEN, when the game is finished you can do the coin toss game/interview.

I think during an interview. You should ask them about the things they know. If they feel comfortable then they can answer the next questions with much ease. You would be able to evaluate them much effectively. Rather than make them nervous and stutter in front of you. haaha

I usually start the interview off breaking the ice so to speak. Ask them about their family and hobbies is a good start to get them relaxed.

Hi Wisereptiles, Open body language/posture is a good way of you, as the interviewer, to show you're not interviewing them just for the sole purpose to qualify them. No, you want to know the person better to and have a pleasant talk with them. In combination with humor you'll see that open body language will make them feel more comfortable thus ensuring a smoother and more open talk. :)

Thank you very much for your tip and comment. I am going to keep track of this thread very carefully and take notes on it and in a month or 2 I am going to use the suggestions from everyone in interviews and see how they all turn out. I want to make the interview product stress free and fun for them as well as me.
