Is it true that milk helps lower blood pressure naturally?

I have heard that milk helps lower blood pressure or keeps it lower, which is healthier for the heart. I think it has something to do with the calcium content. Has anyone else heard this? Do you know if it's true. I think it could be true, cause whenever milk is in the house my family is calmer and there are fewer health issues. And, of course, milk is essential for healthy bones and teeth, especially in children. What do you think about using milk as a way to keep your body healthy?

I have no idea if milk lowers a person's blood pressure. But it is so good for us anyway, that it is sure to have other health benefits besides even calcium for our bones. I hate skim milk, but studies have shown that people who drink skim milk for breakfast, eat 25% less during the day then people who didn't. Apparently, it fills a person up more than any other kind of milk or beverage, and thus aids in weight loss. Good to see you around!

And because skim has less fat, but still has the protein...maybe I need to get me some skim milk. I just hate the taste!

Add a drop of real vanilla to each eight ounce cup of milk and stir. That should make the taste of skim milk more pleasant. Always works for me. Or, use as part of your cooking. That works too.

That really makes sense, considering milk contains lots of protein and protein is said to make a person feel fuller longer.

Milk may help prevent high blood pressure. Hopefully that's true. Not sure if it will lower high blood pressure, but there seems to be at least one study that suggests it could help.

Oh, it's so true! Just this past month, I bought some no-salt bread to try out. My husband pretty much told me it tasted like shoe leather. And, that kind of makes me wonder how he would know that. It's not like shoe leather is a regular part of our meals. No really, I loved the no salt bread. But he was not such a big fan. Later he admitted the no salt bread didn't taste so bad when used as part of a sandwich. And, I was like 'Duh! What do you think I bought it for?'

This is news to me and if it is true I don't mind drinking one gallon of milk everyday as I have been on BP pills for 28 years now and it doesn't seems to leave me. What I have heard is drinking non fat milk helps to slim down.

Ooh! I didn't know that about the non-fat milk helping with weight loss. Will have to try that out. Losing weight and keeping it off is my big deal, always such a struggle for me. But I know that it's so important for health reasons. Thanks for your comment.

The article I read said that yes it does. Specifically SKIM milk. It sated 1 glass a day cuts your pressure by 1/3. It was pretty interesting. The study came out of the Netherlands. The study focused mainly on the elderly Dutch. Here is the link if you'd like to read it. http://www.nhs.uk/news/2009/06June/Pages/Skimmedmilkcutsbloodpressure.aspx

Thanks so much! You're such a sweetheart for looking up the info. I have been racking my brains lately trying to figure out some natural way to lower blood pressure. We're having some blood pressure issues with a family member and I really hope it doesn't go as far as blood pressure medication. Always best to handle things naturally when it comes to health. Fewer side effects. Thanks again.

hi beautyqueen26 If it is true I had best start drinking milk again as I am on three different high blood pressure pills. Calcium I know is good for our bones, I am not sure about the lowering of blood pressure so am googling it and will add a comment to my response soon.

Thanks for checking it out, Hatley! Nice to talk with you again. Blood pressure has recently become an issue in our house, too, so I'm on the look out for natural blood pressure remedies. I love milk anyway, so having more milk in the house is not going to be a problem.

Hi beautyqueen. Milk from cows doesn't really lower blood pressure but Soya Milk does. It is still milk but the other comes from the plants. I forgot what chemical is in Soya milk that relates in decreasing hypertension but it has. My mother always told me to drink soya milk everyday since it can also aids in digestion. Milk in soya is hi-fiber compared to milk in cows. Milk cows though have high calcium levels so they are still useful. I hope this answers your question as simple as I can.

Well this is the first time that I came to know about this. But I was able to read the link on the previous response and it seems the study does make the fact clear. Well, the thing is there are different kinds of milk. It is quite important to consider non fat milk considering that those that contain fats would surely be not appropriate considering that obesity would lead to hypertension.

i have not heard of this one. all i know about milk is it's high in calcium and the helps our bones and teeth healthier. there is also essential nutrients that helps us get more active. i can see those kids nowadays, they are so active and they seem to get tired less than those who don't take or drink milk.
