Do you always reward a best response answer?

I have recently answered a post that was submitted two years ago and it was still without a best response award. Do you always reward a best response answer? I believe that awarding a best response award is a small thank you for the users that have participated in your discussion. I always try to give the best response award. Do you?

I do- when its warrented! I have some discussions that are years old that I have yet to choose best response for because I didn't think any of the responses I did receive were suited to be chosen as such. I think BR could be one of my big pet peeves here on mylot. Either people give it out too quickly and/or for no reason at all- or people don't give it at all?? I truly believe that in order to be derserving of a BR - the response has to be: 1. The best response given obviously! 2. Has to have answered your post- not just agreed with it. 3. IS NOT 2 sentences long 4. I THINK the discussion should be open a minimum of 7 DAYS before BR is given. Therefore allowing us all a chance at recieving this honor. (If I come across a discussion that has been given best response within a few hours- you can probably bet I won't be visiting anymore of that mylotters discussions). Those are just my thoughts on it :)

We are told in the FAQs to wait a week before awarding it but of course, we know that not many read the FAQs

I am new to Mylot, and I was wondering what the reward is for those who are chosen for best answer. I was going to post a question about that before I saw your post. What would my best answerer receive from Mylot when I choose one? And how on Earth do you choose a best answer, when most of the discussions are so good. I would be very confused on most of my topics to choose who is best.........

rosegardens the person getting the best response receives no extra earning just the nice pat on the back from a fellow mylotter is all.hope that answers your questions.you just use your best judgment and select'accordingly, there is no right or wrong way, just your own feeling. You will do fine, believe me.

Thank you for your prompt response. I would think it would at least help with the rating if there is no monetary reward, but I guess the pat on the back is not a bad thing. I shall decide then in my discussions who to give it to. As I said, it is rather difficult to choose.

I agree. The best response is not only a thank you, but also a morale boost for the receiver, and a bit of a magnet for your discussions. I think someone who got a BR from me will drop by to other discussions of mine.

Yes that normally follows. If I like a user's style of writing usually I ll follow and reply to his or hers other discussions.

it strikes to me sometime in a month or like that when i suddenly go to the unresolved section and i always do it in bulk.....then i remember my old old discussions and my old old friends here at mylot.....i am a bit lazy in doing that ..but i agree with you that at least the person who has expressed his/her thoughts in the best way is worth giving thanks...and that is the best thing we can do here at mylot....i will also try to improve myself

I wait a long time before awarding it. I start few discussions but they receive responses even months later so no point in rushing things. I also have several where I have no idea which response is the best so I have not awarded one there and I doubt I ever will as there are many that deserve it.

diana what I have done when I have two that both are equally the best of all the responses is to tell the second responder that if mylot allowed me to do so I would give them a best response too.

hi ronaldinu oh yes I really do as I think its a nice way to reward the person whom I felt made the best response of all. I often wish we had two best responses to give as I have seen in some of the responses to my discussions two that were equally the best. so instead I always tell the second one that if I was allowed to do so I would give them a second best response.

yes sometimes it is very difficult to choose between two well written submissions. unfortunately as you have said you are allowed to select only one... the runners up end up with nothing

I like to give and get a best response. So I pick one when I can. I have some discussions with no responses, to I appreciate any responces I get. The first response is always a relief. I used to have a friend here that gave best response to whoever answered first. Funny how there are different thoughts on different topics.

The FAQ state that we should reward a best response after a few weeks that you have started the discussion. But every person has different thoughts and reasoning.

Hi Ronald, It is true that I have some unresolved discussions but I support your views. Giving a BR is a small reward to our responders. If the numbers of responses are less then I may fix the br within one or two weeks. Otherwise it may take some more time to find out the best one. I should select the best one among the responses, so taking some more time to find out the best, is not at all a bad idea.

Usually I spend a whole Saturday morning reading all the discussions that I have started and rewarding the BR award. I was not in the mood today. So I am leaving it for next week! Nice to hear from you Sreekala and joannaleed.

I used to give best responses, but now I don't because I don't start anymoe discussions. I don't start anymoer discussions because I don't have the time to participate much anymore so when I do find a few minutes I just respond to some of my friends discussions or I just go to a mylot digest and see if there are any interesting topics there to respond to. I wish I had more time to participate here but since I am working full time offline and earning a heck of a lot more money out there, I just don't have the time. I don't even look at the discussions anymore, to see if they have marked a best response or not. It isn't important to me.

Yes I do. I don’t start as many discussions as some do so I can manage to go through once a week or so and clear all unresolved posts by awarding BRs. I don’t like getting too behind with that because it can take a while to decide who to award a best response too. It’s tough to decide because so many responses can be deserving. For some reason I don’t like a build up of unresolved topics. It is a good idea to wait at least a week before going through all replies.

It depends on the discussion. If it is a lengthy one than it can be difficult to choose between equally good discussions.

Definitly i do but wait for a week or more. Sometimes i recieve response after months, so wait for months too when i think that dis is considered as an interesting by the mylotters.

Mylot rules suggest that a user should award the best response award after four weeks from the date that the discussion was started. I also like to leave a couple of weeks to re read the whole discussion before awarding the best response award

Yes, i do. Everyone took the time to respond, so the least i can do, is give a best response. It is only good manners, after all. TATA.

hi my friend! Till now i have only several discussions, and I am not pretty sure, have I rewarded them or not, but when I don't forget to do it, i reward them, so tat I can know someone will be happy about it, and will become more active here. because when I still was a newbie here I really haven't been that active, but since I received my first BR, i can tell you i become really more active and try to post more qualitative responses and discussions too

I am a terrible offender of this. I do award best response but sometimes it take me a long time to resolve the discussions. So I do it, but it sometimes takes a while. I dont want to end the discussions. I am trying to get better at this. When is the best time to resolve the discussion? I am trying top stick to about three weeks.

I think we all are. So don't take it personally! :) According to FAQ we should take around 4 weeks prior to award the BR award. Sometimes I take longer because I do have a lot of things to do.

I always give the best response after I posting the new discussions for one week. I think this is a kind of appreciation to the people who have responded to my discussions. And one week later is a suitable time because I already give enough time for people to respond to my discussions. I love China

Usually I prefer to give more time such as three to four hours. I don't like it when a user who started a discussion award the BR award after a few hours.

I try to, I always go back and look at my discussions and see if I've awarded one yet, and if not, then I do. I like getting best responses, it tells me that the person starting the discussion is thankful for your input, and they're thankful that you took time out to respond to their discussion.

Hi there Ronaldinu and congrats for your 8.000th mark ( you have 7998 now, but i guess by the time you read this comment you will have reached and passed it). Well i do always reward the best response, but it depends on how popular my discussion is like when i have one response and that's a bad one, i might wait for months for another user to respond before awarding it.

HI elitess thanks for your encouragement. I have passed it by now:) I do agree with you. If a discussion does not have enough responses that I can wait a bit too until I award the pencil:) Thanks for sharing.
