Hi fellas, Anybody using any voip product? I have been using one and gee it really is very economical compared to paying international long distance assisted calls and or phone card. There are so many voip providers out in the market and each have unique payment schemes that you can avail of. having a voip service overseas helps me get in contact with my friends and family in the u.s and canada at a very reasonable price. how about you are you using voip? does it work for you? What are the pros and cons of the product?

Hello Candyfairy, I use MagicJack and I love it. I dont have a phone at home anymore, only a cell and this lets me call anyone here in Canada and the US for free.....well its only a small yearly fee that doesnt compare to the amount of money I was paying for a landline!!

I am just typing some pros and cons that I remember from memory when I teach ECDL Basic concepts module to my students Pros Financial - Calls are much cheaper than a telephone landline service. Flexibility - You can make us of VOIP as long as you have a computer equipped with microphone, speakers and internet service. You can shift from one computer to another. There are free features such as ID barring that you have normally to pay for when using a normal telephone line. Cons It does not work if you have an electrical power cut Sometimes the sound quality is rather poor.

I been planning to setup like that also I think it's better than paying long distance call. I have known someone who was able to setup like that in his house and what's great about it is that he was able to integrate it with Skype whenever people are abroad want to call home he would just dial through Spype and it will connect to his local server and dial local numbers which in turn makes the call as local call. So the caller doesn't pay for international calls fee as long you have internet and Skype it's all free. Voip is a really great technology and I think local carries are afraid of losing their international call business.

I don't make international calls, but if I did I probably would use something like that. Of course everyone I talk to, with the exception of a couple of people live in the states and I have a nationwide plan that doesn't charge long distance through my cell phone provider because only one person lives locally.

Before we used Sky rocket, at the time it cost $95.00 annually till they increased it to $200 so we decided to cancel. My mom discovered Magic Jack and though I warned them of the not so great service, they just shrugged it off and bought it anyway. The service is so so because there are times that the reception is great and there are times that it is so choppy that I can't barely understand what my mom was saying. Right now we resorted to just using Skype again since it is clearer and has video call although we have no choice but to keep on using it when my mom doesn't have her laptop with her.

I tried magic jack before, it wasn't that great for me. So, I switch to something else called IBB talk. This company allows you to talk to locally free, and long distance free, any time and any moment. They sent you a modem to connect to the router, and you don't need to turn on the computer in order to make calls.
